Please Accept My Humble Obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.I have seen the Krishna series, that basically depicts the Srimad Bhagavatam. At one point in the film, Maharaj Pariksit is confronted by Kali Yug. Kali Yug asked Maharaj to be able to give him accomidations.Maharaja Pariksit allowed Kali Yug stay around many un-holy places. One of those places that Kali Yug was allowed to reside is in gold & ornaments. So my question is, what about those Tulasi mala's with gold attached?? Should they be avoided? Please forgive me if I have offended anyone.Hare Krishna.

Hare Krsna, Obeisances to everyone, Jai Srila Prabhupada. I cannot find the quote right now, but I remember reading Srila Prabhupada state in a letter or conversation, that Srimati Tulasi devi is beautiful enough as she is and that we don't need to speculate by putting all kinds of ornaments or gold on strands of Tulasi devi / kanthi mala, that Vaisnavas wear around their necks.
A humble Vaisnava does not wish to attract all kinds of attention to themselves. Now an industry has sprouted up making tulasi neck beads with all kinds of things attached to them. It has become a fad and fashion. If you look at Srila Prabhupada's neck beads, they were the tiniest ones you could imagine. Very discrete and simple, not showy or fancy
Hare krsna.please accept my humble obeisances.all glories to guru n gauranga.my limited thoughts acquired by the mercy of krsna says in this perspective-certainly u can use a gold string around tulasi.bcoz she is bhaktidevi n a great devotee of krsna.u can utilize anything in the service of krsna or his devotees.no matter whether it is gold or other.bt if u use gold or other to satisfy urself forgetting krsna, certainly at that time n at that place koli maharaja will be available.koli maharaj is a devotee of krsna.thr4 he doesn't try to herm devotees in their devotional service bt if u fall off frm ur devotional purpose,he may attack u.as u r a devotee so this attack is also a gift frm krsna as HE is always ready to bless u.hare krsna.
Hare Krssna,
Prabhu ji as my understanding goes Gold here ment those securities(earnings) amoungt's which part has been not spend on spreading krsna con. which have only been accumulated for the pourpose of sence gratification thus kalyuga will attack them.
Good Question. Gold is not a contaminant by itself. Its the modes that make it useful to some and distress to others. Gold does not contaminate and it is perfectly ok to use it to make Tulasi mala using gold.
It is your mind that is influenced by Kali through gold, not by gold itself. And Tulasi being spiritual , cannot be contaminated by material qualities.
And the only real un-holy place in the material craetion is in our minds only and no other place. The mind need to be won over and purified, and you will find nothing un-holy. You will finally be able to see Krsna in everything.
Kali's presence in this age is not limited to Gold. Today, Kali is rampant everywhere.
When Parikshith maharaj ruled, Kali was kept in control by him.
Parikshit maharaj allowed Kali to live in places “gambling houses, in taverns, in women of unchaste lives, in slaughtering places". Because there were no such places in his kingdom, Parikshit allowed Kali to live in Gold. It is a misconception to think that Kali is limited to Gold in this age. Current rulers have no control over Kali. Kali probably controls the rulers in this day.
If you already have gold in the Tulsimala, it does not matter. Take shelter of Tulasi and surely she will lead us to the feet of Krishna. I used to wear gold since childhood and loved it. Once I started wearing Tulasi kanti mala (neck beads) I feel no desire for gold chains.
It is nice to decorate Tulasi with gold. But she would prefer that you offer Her spiritual gold. IE chanting of the Holy Names of Hari
Usage of Tulasi beads in jewellary is becoming more popular and is a nice thing because when people come in contact with a pure devotee (Tulasi) they too get purified.
Tulsi is very very spiritual , and gold is is the extreme material. For Spirituality You shouldn't keep the two together,
Hiranyakashyapu ,Prahalads Father Name means a soft golden bed. Tulsi is at it best and whole by itself without any gold,
I dont see a point wearing gold with it , Please forgive me if I have offended you.
Hare Krishna David Prabhu, please accept my humble obeisances! all glories to Srila Prabhupada!
It does not mean that we should not use gold.
It says that gold protects from lust, because of that every ages women and men used to wear golden ornaments.
And Srila Prabhupada also says that real money is made of gold not of paper which is only cheating.
In earlier times householders used only gold and silver plates. It is not because of prestige but to use them in black days, in those days when there is nothing to eat golden plates used to be sold and to buy food.
Gold also is good for health...
In that verse we have to understand that gold, these days as money. We do not neglect money, yes?! On the contrary we use for the service of Krishna.
In the place where money or gold is there is always some far, cheating...but Devotee can use that properly.
Your servant,
