Chocolate can be eaten if it is made out of cocoa not caffeine. Also we have to know that white sugar is cleaned by using bones so will we separate sugar and other parts of chocolate and eat that? No.

Because of that better not to eat. We should not offer chocolate to Shalagram Silas.

We do not take caffeine because of its addicting affect. But cocoa is not so. Only if we eat 1 kg of cocoa then only problems will accrue.

HH Jayapataka Maharaj told that Devotees from Brasil can eat chocolates out of cocoa because they have mostly only chocolates...

But we do not eat cocoa because at the time of procession many insects die and their dead bodies remain in the powder.

Please, do not be lazy to read the next short article:

    Your servant,

    • Does cocoa contain caffeine?

      Yes, in very small quantities.

      Cocoa beans

Cocoa beans undergo a process of drying and fermentation to develop the flavour and colour. The amount of caffeine in the beans varies with the type of beans and the degree of fermentation.

In an analysis of cocoa from various sources the following percentages of caffeine were found:

      Percentage of Caffeine

      Average (22 samples)

      0.214

      Maximum

      0.416

      Minimum

      0.062

      Cocoa powder

Cocoa powder contains caffeine. Depending on the degree of fermentation and the type of cocoa beans, the caffeine content will vary from 0.1-0.5%. In cocoa powders made from well fermented African cocoa beans the caffeine proportion is in general very low: 0.1% or less.

      Chocolate

Levels of caffeine range from 2 to 23 milligrams in a typical 40 gram bar of milk chocolate and from 2 to 7 milligrams in a 227 gram glass of chocolate milk; both are the equivalent of that found in cups of decaffeinated coffee. A 28 gram piece of bittersweet (dark) chocolate contains from 5 to 35 milligrams of caffeine, still well under the approximately 75 milligrams of caffeine found in a 227 gram cup of instant coffee or the 140 milligrams found in the same amount of brewed coffee.

      Cocoa butter

A study by Kiefer & Martin to determine the amounts of caffeine and theobromine in chocolate products found only small amounts of theobromine (0.008%) and caffeine (0.038%) in cocoa butter.

  • GBC got no authority to prescribe or ban chocolates..All instructions are there in Shastras...Moreover in this age of kali only principle is Chanting of Harinama without offences (avoiding 4 cardinal rules ) .Nothing else .

GBC is our head seniors who are fulfilling the order of Srila Prabhupada according to time and circumstances. They have full right to bring some changes and rules.

All the shastras should be confirmed by Guru and Sadhu.

Your servant in serving to Srila Prabhupada,

      • hare krsna mataji

        pamho agtsp

SP made GBC only as the top managerial authority not for shastric principles or our philosphy.they dont have any right to change any shastric injunctions and bring any channges in rule and regulations.

So plz reconsider ur statement "They have full right to bring some changes and rules".

in the past we had lots of problem regarding some decissions by GBC . its only for management and nothing else.

  • Hare Krishna prabhuji,

Your reply to the question of chocolate is very factual and point to point. Can you tell me the same about Tea and Coffee, I mean what constituents of Tea and Coffee make them addicted?
