As a result of this, I have always known the Gayatri Mantra.I am not initiated underneath any of the 4 Sampradayas.I do wish to take diksa initiation.I have read that second initiates receive Gayatri Mantra. Isn't this backwards?I learned how to chant Gayatri Mantra before learrning Hare Krishna maha mantra. Please forgive me if I have committed any offense in asking this question.Your Servant,Bhakta David

As you were initiated by your Guru on Gayatri Mantra, you should continue to do Gayatri Japa per the prescribed rules. GM is the very glorification of the divine effulgence of krshnA paramAtma, which sustains the universe as the innumerable Suns in the universe. That divine sunlight illuminates our mind, removes our ignorance and sustains our spiritual nature. Gayatri is also the ved-matha. By glorifying her, she protects us like a mother protects our child. Gayatri is the remover of Agama and kamya sins. Hare-krishna mantra is the remover of Sanchita and prarabdha sins. By purifying ourselves through Gayatri, we become eligible to taste Krishna's nectar and become eligible for His love. Hare-Krishna mahamantra will then become more meaningful to us in all aspects. Krishna says in BG - '..Gayatrim chandasAmaham.. and through GM we reach Krishna sooner.

In loving service of the Supreme and devotees,

    Suresh
