Food in mode of goodness

In bhagavad gita 17 chapter Krsna gives description of foods in three modes. My question is that is there a specific list of food items or ingredients that can be cooked that are in goodness. A general description and importance is nice, but for practical purposes what are the specific items that are in goodness. For passion spices like too much chillies or turmeric are not allowed, but what of other things. Similarly that of ignorance. Please help,YS

    Hare KRsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Food prepared and consumed within 3 hours of preparation, vegeterian (non violent), without onion and garlic, fruits, vegetables, rice, aata, daal (except masoor daal) are all saatvic. The mode of preparation and the mood of preparation are both important. Food offered to God before we eat is in the mode of pure goodness - suddha sattva, whihc is above goodness.

Therefore, better to maintain a kitchen where everything that comes out of the kitchen is first offered to the lord, then consumed by family members. To the extent possible, it should be freshly cooked (within 3 hours of consumption) and made of natural ingredients (and not artificial flavours). Food that is simple, nutritious and easy to digest are in the mode of goodness.

  • What influence has food in mood of ignorance, passion or goodness, on the person who realy knows the Absolute Truth.

Even celestials who are completely in a mood of goodness and having all mistic powers are not saved from the illusion, then what to talk about humans who are mainly in the mood of passion.

Eating, defending, sleeping and mating are just preventing soul from self-realization,

then how food in the mood of goodness can save anyone from illusion, birth and death.

  • Food that is wholesome, pure and obtained without difficulty is in the mode of goodness,

food that gives immediate pleasure to the senses is in the mode of passion,

and food that is unclean and causes distress is in the mode of ignorance.

    • Thank you very much prabhu ji,

But I need specific list of things,

Bhagavad gita mentions general chracteristics of items, effects on consciousness, and also people who like these, but BG doesn't mentions items like Rice, apple, etc..

In the vedas there must be mention of these specific items, I need to find that details.
