Hare Krsna! I was wanting to know if you have to fast on Janmastami? Do all devotees fast then? Cause I'm wanting to quit smoking on that day - actually I would like to quit tonight, Wednesday the 17th and that's only two days without a cigarette and I don't know if I could not eat too...? Fasting is observed on janmanshtami by almost everyone in India and devotees across the world. The way to fast is to wake up early morning - maybe 4 am or earlier and drink as much water as comfortable. Then whole day no water or eating. After 12 midnight, offer to Krsna and have prasadam. All items should be ekadasi/ anukalpa prasadam. All kinds of fruits and dry fruits, milk can be had. This month being 2nd month of chaturmaas, fasting from curd. If you are not observing, you could have curd also.
Why quit smoking for only 2 days? Pls quit smoking forever. That would be very pleasing to Krsna. If not possible, atleast for 2 days pls quit smoking.
Next day of janmastami is Srila Prabhupada appearance day. So fasting till noon, then feasting on normal grain prasadam.

Hare Krsna! Thanks for the letter! I'm quiting smoking on the 17th and two days is when Krsna birthday is. My goal is to quit forever. I guess I'll just eat fruit if I have to. I'm gonna try and fast while going through withdrawal. Hare Krsna!
