For preaching it is important to be in touch with friends and families. Facebook gives ample opportunity to be in constant touch with all our social (and devotional) friends. Preaching need not be always lecturing, it can be the way we live and carry ourselves. Being an example we can preach subtly not directly for which keeping the society updated of our status is important. It need not be like every hourly or daily updates but whenever there is some noteworthy thing like festival or satsang, we can share the event with friends. It might inspire atleast some of our friends. Initially they might start with curiosity trying to know our life style, but gradually they might start liking it. We can share festival photos, temple photos and yatra photos... Our friends on facebook are our friends but not necessarily like minded, hence these posts on various pictures and events and sayings might interest people. Mostly people sit on facebook out of boredom even then if they are encountered with transcendental material from devotee friends, it might create some impact. One day or the other they might try to love Krishna.
I agree that it is addictive at times. We have to be very watchful about the time we spend there. A judicial use of it is absolutely beneficial, not wrong is what I feel. Our friends might not visit us regularly but can get a glimpse of our day to day life through such sites and if we share pure Krishna Conscious stuff, no doubt anyone will like it.
This is my feeling, my angle.. Prabhuji. Being in touch with the world is inevitable to make it Krishna Conscious. Taking due care of our sadhana and seeing that we donot enjoy networking for sense gratification we can go ahead.
Whatever we do should be in relationship with Krishna, even if we are using such sites try to always remember Krishna for ex make spiritual friends and talk about Krishna no other nonsense talks.
Facebook can be utilized for good or bad.. if you are using it, what are you using it for? I am using it to stay in touch with friends and family, they know about my spiritual status and know that I will not tolerate any nonsense. Ultimately we should be detached from all material things and beings, and if you are on that level then you should most probably not use Facebook.
This is my view..by the way.. ISKCON DESIRETREE is on Facebook as well..
