    Shastras say that we need to completely fast on ALL Ekadashi even with out water. But there are some relaxations in Kaliyuga. Even today there are many devotees who do Ekadashi without drinking even water. If this is not possible, then we can try consuming liquids like milk, buttermilk, curd, lime juice, fruits/juices. If this is also not enough there there are certain other things that are allowed on Ekadashi like Sabudana, Sama, Rajagira aata, Singadeka aata. we can prepare many different items like kichadi, vada, upma, kheer, poori, chapathi etc using these items and some of the vegetables like popato, carrots, raw bananna, raw jackfruit, pumpkin, etc.

     

    We should be careful with many small small things in prepating prasadam on ekadashi. We can not use hingh (contains rice flour), Musturd (whole and oil), spice mix bought from market like haldhi, red chill powder, pepper powder, or any other spices if it is in powder form because they might have adulterated it with some kind of flour to make profit. Whole black peppers can be crushed and used in preparations or even green/red chillies are allowed.

     

    Variouis temples have their own standards. Like in Pune we do not use capcicum, tomatos, cabbage, cauliflower, etc which are ok to use in some of the temples on Ekadashi. However, vegetables like beans (any varients) are NOT allowed.

        Mataji... I have heard from devotees that these are available in Gujurati stores or MArwadi stores and also in Shivananda stores. They are called by same name in English also or I do not specifically know them. I think this is available in some big malls where they have ekadashi sections. Now aashada masa is about to begin and every one will try to follow the ekadashi. So there are more chances to get them handy.
