PAMHO.
You have put the question as if both the activities are exclusive. If one chants, one cannot earn and vice versa. Actually, if you dont chant, then you are not likely to donate money after earning. After all, who doesnt want to enjoy? Why would one part with one's hard earned money just for KRsna without any relationship with Him? The way to establish relationship is chanting in this age of kali.
If you simply chant, will you not eat, sleep and the other activities? Where will the money for these come from? One has to work/earn to maintain body and soul together, and one has to chant to nourish the soul and evolve.
Pls do both.

Do both.. but first comes chanting... Donating money can come at one's capacity but chanting must go on for ever.

FIrst of all what can you donate to Krishna.. your question should be rephrased.
Krishna is God and He is laxmi pati.
If you ment ===> donating for gau seva or donating for ISKCON charitable trust..then it would be correct.
Secondly.. what do you mean by simply chant?
Chanting is best way to connect to God.
donating for sick and poor, and humble cows..... is of course a great service to mankind and Service to mankind is service to God Himself.
Serving mankind and holy cows is a part of devotional service.
Chanting is must and should not be neglected. It is also a service in one way.
To be frank....You must realize one important thing....Lord who created the whole universe is capable of even running it....and maintaining it.
You see.....Lord is more caring then what you are ..You know.....before a baby is born itself..He prepares the mother and arranges in her breasts the milk necessary for the baby.. as soon as baby is born the mother gets milk in her breasts also.
Such is the arrangement of Lord such is the care He takes about His creation. EVEN IF YOU DON"T DO ANYTHING ALSO HE IS CAPABLE TO DO EVERYTHING. WE ARE NOTHING. WE ONLY TAKE ORDERS.
You must notice all that you feel you are donating....Is in-turn His idea He puts in Ur brain to donate when the time arised.
Apparently it looks as if you are doing the donating...and you claim it also... but actually it is all pre-planned according to HIM everything happens.
People can serve Lord in various ways..by donating and serving mankind..If a person has lot of Money..He can use it for seva.
If a person has time...he can spare it for seva like working for the organisation ( ISKCON).like distributing books.
If a person has energy he can do seva like working for poor sick and helping others in charitable works...and many ways he can spend his energy by doing Vaishnava seva or gau seva in person.
Chanting is one of the methods of devotional service...how this can be seva? you may ask me. Lord is capable maintain all these activities even without ur intervention.. even before your birth He was doing it....You came today..But He has been running the whole Universe since time immemorial.. One who gave life can maintain also. So out of love for Him we praise Him by chanting by taking holy name with loads of Love and praises... We praise Him for He is worthy of all praises.

donating cows, donating food, doing charity all good karmas lead you to heavenly planets. Becoz all fruitive activities seeking results. When u donate you start to feel you are donar ( pride brings u down). All karma good or bad is always having a bondage in this mortal world.
SB 11.10.26 — Until his pious results are used up, the performer of sacrifice enjoys life in the heavenly planets. When the pious results are exhausted, however, he falls down from the pleasure gardens of heaven, being moved against his desire by the force of eternal time.

Read it. When you do charity also it becomes karma kanda. any karma good or bad is always bonding you to earth. You may get to heaven but then you will fall back. ONlY by chanting one is freed from the cycle of birth and deaths.
Because when you do a karma then a bad karma is bound to happen along with good karma just like smoke and fire co- exist always.
Every endeavor is covered by some sort of fault, just as fire is covered by smoke. Therefore one should not give up the work which is born of his nature, O son of Kunti, even if such work is full of fault.(Chapter 18 text 48)
