On ekadasi day, we refrain from eating grains. Permitted foods are fruits, milk and curd, and non grains like - sago, moriya/ saamak, rajgira atta, singhara atta, kuttu/ phaphar atta, some vegetables like potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, lauki. Food has to be cooked in sunflower oil or ghee, not soyabean oil. Sendha namak should be used, not regular salt. None of the masalas to be used, unless it is grounded at home.
Each ISKCON temple has its nuances of what is permitted prasadam. For that you have to contact your local temple. Ideally, visit the temple during ekadasi and make it a point to have prasadam there so taht you can get an idea.
Next morning there are timings for breaking fast. For this, you have to consult the ISKCON calendar for the timing for your city. We break fast by having water (if we have fasted from water also), or grains, as the case may be.
Ideally, one should chant 25 rounds on ekadasi day, though it is not compulsory.
The rules can be as strict or as leninet as you want, depends on the level of austerity you want to maintain. I am mentioning these rules, not to scare you. You can do minimum and still do ekadasi.Idea is to remember Krsna more on ekadasi day, it helps to purify us.
