Hare Krishna! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
In the language I speak at home, dharma means religion. But in the books of Srila Prabhupada and in Sanskrit they are 2 different things. I want wanted to know the difference between dharma and religion? What exactly do they mean?

hare krsna!
please accept my humble obesciences!
all glories to srila prabhupada and srila gurudev!
srila prabhupada defines dharma as our eternal constitutional behaviour...for example a chilli is always spicy..hence the eternal nature(dharma) of a chilli is to be spicy...similarly a tubelight, is supposed to always give light...as that is its eternal nature(dharma) similarly our eternal nature(dharma) is to be krsna's servant. jivera swarup hoya krsnera nitya das....but however if the chilli and the tubelight dont perform their dharma that is to be spicy and give light respectively...then they are good pieces...similarly if, even a human being is not performing his dharma or not situated in his eternal position as krsna das...then hes not a good human being..
hence dharma is eternal and on the soul platform...
however religion is on the bodily consideration...meaning if a spirit soul accepts birth in a hindu family, he follows hindu religion...and if hes born in a muslim family he follows the muslim faith....!
so religions will change every time we accept a new body for its on the body platform...but our eternal sanatana dharma of being krsna's servant will never change for its on the soul platform...
hope i could serve u well...
your humble servant,
amarnath das
