jagadish prabhuji, it is true that every jivAtmA has a pre-destiny that comes because of the karmA it inherits from the previous birth. However, the future of this destiny, subjects to change due to the independence (though little) of the jivAtma in choosing the actions which are influenced by the material modes (gunA, vAsanAs etc.). When we attain some spiritual knowledge and understand the material world from guru(s) and scriptures like BG and BhAgavatham we learn how to control our material modes (sattva, rajas and tamas) thereby making wise choices and change the future of this destiny. Pre-destiny is what we inherit in this life but it changes according to the karmA we then create later.
This is my understanding.

The amount of happiness and pain is fixed in our life. But the free will is always there. But once we become a sincere devotee, our entire destiny comes under Krsna's personal control and everything that happens in our life , that takes place with personal sanction of Krsna. Please also know that if someone is sincere than he/she can go beyond his/her destiny. If he/she attracts the power of God then he/she changes his/her destiny.
Law of Karma is very complex. If we have given some kind of pain to someone, the same kind of pain is bound to come to us but it is not sure how we will react to that situation, that is up to us. Also, we are the makers of our destiny. How we behave now, that makes our destiny in future. The past is gone, in the present( our material pain and pleasure is fixed), the future is in our hands depending on how we behave in the present.
If we are sincere, Krsna will interfere and He will change our destiny. So this is not an excuse that since my destiny is fixed, I should not try. We have to try our best and please Krsna with our endeavour and that is the ultimate success.
