hare krishna PAMHO. it came as a huge shock to me that there are some contradictions in between SMB and mahabharat as in both these scriptures Character of Parikshit maharaj is portrayed in completely opposite directions. As all know that Maharaj Parikshit is a very pious and religious king as per SMB but mahabharat tells a complete opposite story and portrays king parikshit  as an arrogant person. Both these scriptures has been written by the same person then why is such a huge difference in these. which one is correct and why????

please accept my humble obeisances Maral Alim mataji,

Parikshit allowed him four places to reside: where there is gambling, alcohol consumption, prostitution, animal slaughter. Because their were no such places in his kingdom, Maharaj Parikshit made an exception and allowed him to reside in gold.

Later, Kali smartly entered into Parikshit's golden crown and spoiled his thoughts.
Parikshit entered the hut of a sage named Samika as he was thirsty. He found the sage in deep meditation. He bowed to him several times but as there was no response he took a dead snake and threw it around the sage's neck. Later when the sage's son, Sringin, heard of this incident he cursed the king to die of snake bite on the 7th day.
On hearing this, the king forswore the throne for his son Janamejaya and spent his last 7 days listening to the discourses of Sage Śuka on Bhagavata. As prophesied, the snake king Takshaka bit Parikshit, who left his mortal remains behind and attained salvation simply by hearing Bhagavatam recitation.
It is fairly popular with the Sri Vaishnavas to organize Saptaham, recitation of Bhagavatam in 7 days. Such erudite devotees who recite Bhagavata Saptaham are called Bhagavataar. They go from place to place serving Lord Krishna, living very simply on very little money.

Kshatriyas in nature are arrogant, aggressive, sometimes cruel...but these qualities are needed to them to fight against enemies and to protect the nation. So there is no any contradiction.
We can use our anger, pride, greed...in the service of Krishna and by doing so to be known as a good Devotee.
Parikshit Maharaja wanted to destroy the king Kaliya. But when the Kaliya took refuge in him praying for protection Parikshit Maharaja as a religious, noble, pious King did not kill him. But gave him three places to stay:
    1. gold
    2. gambling places
    3. 3rd one forgot :-( if some Devotees can say!
