Hare Krishna!!! Krishna's hue is definitely blue. In Krishna Karnamrita, Lilasukh who had the privilege of beholding Krishna face to face and relishing His unparalleled beauty   describes Him as '

    nilamani vayam'.

He is ‘nilam’ – like beryl. He is blue– complexioned and the embodiment of the erotic ras. The colour of the erotic ras is ‘Shyâm’ – Hence the word ‘nil’ has been used. Sri Bharat Muni has written in Nâtyashâstra –

“The erotic ras is blue in colour.”

Sri Krishna is Shringâr(Eros) personified. Therefore,He is transcendental Cupid.

(A friend told Râdhârâni) –”Dear friend Râdhe! Sri Krishna, Who is charmed by the Gopis, is engrossed in performing sports as if He is theShringâr-ras personified.” – (Geet–Govindam)

Sri Bhatta Goswâmipâd has explained ‘nilam’ -

“Sri Krishna’s bodily splendour is like the fully bloomed blue–lotus – hence He is the whole essence of Shringâr–ras.”

First of all, this verse you have quoted is from Vishnu Sahasara naama.

Regarding the colour of Lord Sri Krishna, Srila Prabhupada and other previous aacharyas explain that Krishna is Blueish Black in complexion just like a fresh monsoon cloud. It is very difficult to find the stone to make the deity of such colour. Hence, we see the deity of Krishna mostly made of Black stone. Scriptures say that we can make the deity of the Lord in Stone, metal, wood or clay. In the stone, there are specification that one can use Black stone or a white marble (amrutashila). There are many rules and restriction in selecting the stone itself for the deity. One such rule is that the stone has to be living!!!!!

    Hare Krishna Ashwani prabhu.

Thanks for posting that quote by Ramanujacharya.

An intelligent person knows that death is born along with his birth. He knows that he is dying at every second. Therefore he doesn't waste a single moment to not think and remember Krishna. Simply eating, sleeping, mating, and enjoying material life is animal consciousness. But human consciousness should be well above that and that's why human birth is rare thing not to be wasted. An serious devotee does every activity in service of Krishna so he can remember Krishna. Even while sleeping many devotees are chanting Krishna's names or dreaming about Him.

Hare Krishna Prabhuji. Dandavat Pranam. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

anything, any favourable query related to Krishna, is also Krishna. Because it is Kirtana, and Kirtana gives rememberence , this two are most important in devotional service (sravanam , kirtanam). So a favourable question with honest intention is not waste of time. Because pure Devotional service means not to worry about whether we can get out of this world, or where we will be in next, its about 24/7 thnking and serving Krishna, question and answering is also serving through intelliegence i.e buddhi yoga , intelligence connected to Krishna.

  • Hare Krsna Prabhu,

    Thanks a lot for understanding.

Your quote of Sripad Ramanujacharya is an eye opener.

Everyone, every scripture asks us to dovetail everything towards Krsna.

Out of all efforts that Srila Prabhupada took for us to explain everything in logic, we cannot be bookish even now. His desire was that we become serious in KC.

Can I remember Krsna at the time of my death is the conclusion of reading and understanding everything  about Krsna and chanting His holy name.

Unfortunately, I was near death in the waters of Yamuna and I couldn't remember Krsna. Maybe one day I can think of Him appropriately.

Hare krishna Prabhuji. Dandavat Pranam. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Dear Devotees, When we have to answer something related to Krishna and Philosophy, we must quote from Shastra and Guru's words, It is not that Krishna's color is some imagination , and we can give any color. The worshipping process all Vaishnava sampradaya follows always abide by some rules and regulation layed down by Pancharatra. So we can't do anything which is not mentioned By guru or shastra. If we don't give logical answer How can people will accept our Philosophy. Srila Prabhupada established KC philosophy with strong logical argument and Shastric evidence. So Krishna's deity color is not any imagination, it is as it is stated in shastras. Below are the extract

    SB 3.28.13

    Purport

The color of the Personality of Godhead, Krsna, is described here as nilotpala-dala, meaning that it is like that of a lotus flower with petals tinted blue and white. People always ask why Krsna is blue. The color of the Lord has not been imagined by an artist. It is described in authoritative scripture. In the Brahma-samhita also, the color of Krsna's body is compared to that of a bluish cloud. The color of the Lord is not poetical imagination. There are authoritative descriptions in the Brahma-samhita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita and many of the puranas of the Lord's body, His weapons and all other paraphernalia. The Lord's appearance is described here as padma-garbharuneksanam. His eyes resemble the inside of a lotus flower, and in His four hands He holds the four symbols: conchshell, discus, mace and lotus.

    SB 10.8.13

    asan varnas trayo hy asya
    grhnato 'nuyugam tanuh
    suklo raktas tatha pita
    idanim krsnatam gatah

Your son Krsna appears as an incarnation in every millennium. In the past, He assumed three different colors-white, red and yellow-and now He has appeared in a blackish color. [In another Dvapara-yuga, He appeared (as Lord Ramacandra) in the color of suka, a parrot.] All such incarnations have now assembled in Krsna.

As here it is clearly stated that all the incarnation are now assembled in Krishna. So the deity form of Krishna have all these colors mentioned above.

    BG Lect London 1975

Srila Jiva Gosvami, the most authoritative acarya of our sampradaya, he has explained like this. Krsna-varnam means always chanting Hare Krsna. Krsnam varnayati, describing Krsna, "Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna." This is description of Krsna, addressing Krsna. So therefore krsna-varnam, or varnam means category. Just like brahmana-varna, ksatriya-varna. So in that way krsna-varna means He is Krsna, in the category of Krsna. Either you take this meaning or that meaning, krsna-varnam. But Krsna is black, and He is tvisa, by the complexion, akrsna. Akrsna means not Krsna. Now, there are so many colors. So everything is akrsna. That color, all the colors are mixed together, it becomes black. Otherwise there are many different colors. So akrsna means different color, "not krsna," not black. So what is the actual? That we have to refer to sastra again, that Krsna, in how many categories of color He appears? That is stated in the Bhagavatam. When Krsna was born, then Gargamuni was calculating about His horoscope, and he said to Nanda Maharaja that "This, your child..." Idanim krsnatam gatah. Suklo raktas tatha pita idanim krsnatam gatah. "Your child had formerly white color." White color... Sometimes some critics criticize us that "Krsna everywhere He is black. Why in your temple white?" But it is said that sukla, suklo raktas tatha pita idanim krsnatam gatah: "Your son had other colors also, white and red and yellow, and now He has assumed blackish color."

    Hope this is clear now.

  • Hare Krsna,

It is the quality of our birth in this world that we want to understand everything in logic and conclude an answer. It is Krsna and it is His form. He is God, He can have any color as He likes it.

There are many questions about Him, why does He stand in 3 bent posture, why does He have 2 hands and Vishnu has 4.

Srila Prabhupad told us 40 years ago and his guru maharaj even before that and many acharyas like Ramanujacharya and Madhvacharya that it is an EMERGENCY, we have to act now, there is no time for Meditation, Fire Sacrifices, or Building temples to understand God.

We need to ask ourselves why we are still here.

Just find smart ways to get out of this world, there is no hope for improvement until Krsna comes back next time with real sword and chop off our heads if we still have questions about His existence and WHY'S, WHERE'S, WHO'S, WHEN'S .....

Please post some real questions, so that sr. devotees who frequent to this blog can share their valuable suggestions.

Hare Krsna ..... please forgive me if you felt that I was rude.... Hari bol
