Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada, Sri Gurudev & Sri Gauranga.Hare KrishnaI have learned this method of chanting on my fingers.12 x 9 = 108I tend to do this when I'm not able to use my bead bag. In this way I always think of Sri Krishna. Is this offensive?Your Servant,Bhakta David

Thank You to Gourab Saha Prabhuji, Bhaktin Maral Mataji, Ashish Prabhuji, and Nitai Prabhuji for your replies. You are truly oceans of Sriman Mahaprabhu's mercy.
I have read that Srila Gour Govinda Maharaj also propogated chanting on fingers!
Actually, I'm still a student. I'm not financially self-sufficient. So I have to depend on my parents and they would not buy me a bead. I still can't decipher Krishna's plan.
yes, it is little bit difficult to be still depended on parents. But for example, when i was a school girl i used to collect that money which my dad used to give for our food and daily expenses and buy books.
Beads are not expensive. Or else You can prepare them Yourself. i think at the end of Bhagavad Gita there is explanation of how to make beads at home.
Or else where are You from? maybe some Devotees here have beads which they do not use so that They could give as a charity to You.
It is recommended to first chant all your 16 rounds properly with the Tulsi beads so by Tulsi Devis grace you can develop more devotion toward Krishna and chant attentively and when you have done your minimum amount of rounds then you can chant on your fingers or the counter or what ever may suit you.
I also chant on my fingers where I cannot take my bead bag. Since, it is allowed to chant using counter so I don't think using fingers to chant is offense. No doubt that chanting on beads is the best way but in some situations chanting on fingers can also be done. I have asked it from many devotees and they say the same answer. But I prefer to chant more on beads and less rounds on fingers.
Hare Krishna!!! I too have the same question since my parents do not allow me to keep a chanting bead. They have a strange conception that if I chant with a bead, I may forget my material duties and renounce the world. So I chant on fingers.

i find it difficult because of that prefer to have finger counter - very tiny and comfortable. But it is for sure not an offense.
