Urgent Enquiry

HARE KRISHNA ALL,

sorry if i hurt any of my dear devotee sentiments.

i just want to know that can we wash chanting beads please ? ( tulasi beads )

like with soap or detergent or with any brush to clean them ??

or just we can rinse them in normal tap water ??

because obviously they become dirty when u chant on them every day .even if they are in bead bag.

ur one hand always touch them as its in bead bag .devotee hands touch other things too n even we have washed our hands  before chanting,  still beads need cleaning.

so please advise me . one devotee told me that u can just put normal tap water on them in kitchen area or any other place ( not bathroom where u take bath or where toilet is ) n rinse it n then let them soaked n they are clean.

one thing more do after cleaning we have to put our mala( japa mala) before lord krishna diety or picture in our home n read some mantras ?

please reply. thanks

HARE KRISHNA

    • Why what is wrong if we use a soap and water to wash beads ? Are water and soap impure ? Infact, they are the purifier.

Prabhuji, you already have a firm opinion in your mind. Hence, there is no need to ask anyone for his/her opinion.

It is my opinion that sanctity of japa mala should be preserved as it help us in our spiritual wellbeing.

      Thanks Hare Krishna

  • It is always appropriate to have Japa Mala for 16 rounds seperate from the Japa Mala we use for doing extra rounds.

The Japa Mala for 16 rounds should always be kept clean and washed when needed. We should use it after taking a bath in the morning. Care should be taken that we don't touch dirty hands to it. It should be washed with a soap (not animal fat based). Yes, toilets and bathrooms are considered not a pure place to wash the Japa mala. After washing it, you can offer it to deity for purification.

Even the Japa mala that we use for doing extra rounds should not be touched by dirty hands. The hands should be reasonably clean. This Japa Mala can be used while doing our daily chores.

Cleanliness of chanting mala and bags is important as it is a spiritual accessory
