Hare Krishna to sweet devotees,
Am a Neophyte in KC ,and hence please forgive my foolish question below.
I would like to know ,how chanting is actually a "SERVICE" to our Sweet Lord?
I can understand ,how it can purify us,how it gets us closer to KRISHNA & why it is must for KC.
I read once (not sure where) ,that HIS DIVINE GRACE Srila Phrabhupada had stated Chanting is best service to KRISHNA.
Offering Bhoga ,dancing for him etc can be a service.How can chanting be a service to lord?
Does it make Bhagavan Happy or the Paramatma happy ?

Everyone has given such wonderful explanations. All I have to share is a piece of nectar I have learned from Srila Prabhupada. He said in one of his lectures (not sure which one), that Lord Krishna has relations with the trees, cows, cowherd boys, and every other living entity. So by chanting this Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra, we are loving everyone.
I also recall hearing a very high Vaisnavi saying that when she asked Srila Prabhupada if she can pray to Lord Krishna for all living entities, Srila Prabhupada said ''Do you know all living entities?"
Meaning, pray to Sri Krishna because He knows all living entities that He created. In this way you are doing a great service to all entities (living & dead).

But ,forgive me ,I actually like to know ,how does chanting benefits our sweet lord and not us.
Chanting will of course take me closer to Lord and that is certain.
Simply put ,will Krishna smile Vaikuntha ,when he hears ,that I uttered his name ?will he be happy or it is just "me alone" getting the benefit of chanting.

Srila Prabhupada has given us word Loving Devotional Service for Bhakti, means Bhakti is service of Krishna. There is no Bhakti without service. And Bhakti (Devotional Service) is of nine kind.
Shravanam Kirtanam Smaranam Vishnoh Pada-sevanam,
Archanam Vandanam Dasyam Sakhyam Atma-nivedanam.(Srimad Bhagwatam)
So Chanting is Kirtanam . When we chant Harinam ,we do the best Service of Krishna.Because Krishna is non-different of His Holy Name. When anybody chant Krishna or any of his names, Krishna becomes most pleased of Him and the person becomes dear to Him. Krishna takes all of his responsibilities.
Even if a person is most sinful like Ajamil but if he chant Krishna's name ,even without knowing its glories, Krishna bestows His mercy on Him . That's why Ajamila was saved from Yamadutas by krishna's dutas.
Chanting is the best way to serve Krishna in this Kali Yuga. That's why Mahaprabhu Chaitanya said Kirtaniya sada harih - always chant Hare Krishna.We must not chant for our deliverance but to please krishna. Krishna is very kind, even when a person chant His name once, He makes that person His dear most. When we become His dear then we gain deliverance automatically, then why to worry of it. This is what Srila Prabhupada and my Gurudeva says.

You should be knowing, the soul is the marginal expansion of Supreme Lord. It always wants to get nearer to Krishna. Krishna says in Bhagvad Gita
that a Yogi is the most favourite of Lord 'coz He is Servicing Lord through the remedial reciting of and rembrance of Lord. It's that wehn Lord is made happy by regularly remembering, He also pleases others. This means your chanting not only makes u happy, but it makes the Lord happy and still, the entire universe gtes happy. When u r making whole universe happy(spiritually), then u r doing service to all, including demigods and demons.
Furthermore, When u chant, u acquire good thinking and good deeds u do. This is same as Seed-planting. When u plant a seed, it becomes a tree and then helps all. Similarly, chanting will make u perfect spiritually, by which u will get materially perfect and u will serve others through material service. If to add, Loud chanting of Holy Name sanctifies the nearby areas too, not to forget the five elements. This way too u r giving service to Lord.
Lord mainly needs spiritual service to Him and physical service to his men. Chanting satiesfies Lord Spiritually and makes u able to get high material noble thinking of service.
