Hare Krishna dear Devotees, please accept my humble obeisances! all glories to Srila Prabhupada!

on Ekadashi we can have foods like:

    buckwheat,

    sa me ka chaval

    amaranth

    Singoda flour

    sweet potato

    peanuts

    ....

from these foods it is possible to prepare chapati, porridge, pulao, halva...

To observe Ekadashi is very important but as Sanjay Prabhu told we have to see our health condition. but i think for one day it won't happen anything bad. i know Mataji who was pregnant and the day of he initiation observed fast nirjala till Midnight. and now her baby is ok.

but again to use intelligence according to time, place and circumstances is better.

  • Hare Krishna Mataji,

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Pregnent women need to consult their doctor whether they have any signs of high-risk pregnency. If not, and they are found to be perfectly healthy then they can observe ekadashi, but still its not advisable to go on complete fasting.. They can avoid grainy iems and eat non-grainy items, fruits, milk etc. Because the growing fetus inside the womb needs adequate nutrition which comes from the mother. So also during lactation, till a period of 6 months, baby should be on exclusive breast feeding and no other complimentary feeds. So during this time its nutrition completely depends on the mother's milk. So its always advisable to ensure there will be no compromise in child's nutrition. This is from the medical point of view. I don't know what is given in shastras.
