i have been chanting since 2011 and practising k.c since 2015 at iskcon one of delhi centers. in 2014 i wrote a novel in hindi and now translating in english but my leader is prohibiting me from doing so. he said that it is not good for my k.c. i told him that my story is original and would be a best selling and maybe adapted for movie but he said give me any concrete reason that u r saying right. now what can i do he is initiated disciple and cant read any non k.c literature. i really want to get it published. i thought that through this novel i will make huge money and give some money in donation and other to my family to practise k.c full time. now what do i do now?? i am not satisfied by what he told me

  • SB 4.28.42==>King Malayadhvaja could thus observe that the Supersoul was sitting by his side, and that he, as the individual soul, was sitting by the side of the Supersoul. Since both were together, there was no need for separate interests; thus he ceased from such activities.

In the advanced stage of devotional service, the devotee does not see anything separate between his own interests and those of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Both interests become one, for the devotee does not act for a separate interest. Whatever he does, he does in the interest of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. At that time he sees everything in the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the Supreme Personality of Godhead in everything. Having attained this stage of understanding, he sees no distinction between the spiritual and material worlds. In perfect vision, the material world becomes the spiritual world due to its being the external energy of the Supreme Lord. For the perfect devotee, the energy and the energetic are nondifferent. Thus the so-called material world becomes spiritual (sarvaṁ khalv idaṁ brahma). Everything is intended for the service of the Supreme Lord, and the expert devotee can utilize any so-called material thing for the Lord’s service. One cannot serve the Lord without being situated on the spiritual platform; thus if a so-called material thing is dovetailed in the service of the Lord, it is no longer to be considered material. This is how the pure devotee, in his perfect vision, sees from all angles.

Though engaged in all kinds of activities, My devotee, under My protection, reaches the eternal and imperishable abode by My grace ( BG 18.56)

How can I see my job in relation to Krishna?

    Can I skateboard for Krishna?

Any work when u primarily give up the fruits of the works becomes nishkaam karma and its results wont..get attached to you.  Like a hobby u to write. u write some content....but not having any thought about the outcome or result of the work like I will get so much money if I do... without thinking of outcome if u do.. that WORK BECOMES a Yoga.

selfless desireless action they become Karma yoga another path to liberation.

    This is not KC activity.

    According to Karma Yoga ..

Be steadfast in yoga, O Arjuna. Perform your duty and abandon all attachment to success or failure. Such evenness of mind is called yoga. ( BG 2.48).

If YOU DID IT AS  A HOBBY then why u are thinking about the outcome? IF U do  such  result oriented activities then you will have to bear the consequences of the outcome whether good or bad.

Then why you even need to fear whether u did KC work or not?

EVERYTHING IS KRISHNA. ALL Activities which you do become KC activities when u offer the fruits ( results) to Krishna or do any activity without any concern for the outcome.

In your case I see YOU ARE without even publishing thinking about not only OUTCOME.. Taking 100 opinions from all.

BUt actually u have to only take blessing from Krishna.. that is only required.

and without getting entangled to the outcome of the work...you must do it......keeping 100% faith in Krishna.

Nishkaam karma makes the karma akarma.. its results wont effect you.

    Hare Krishna.

    • A perfect KC devotee would never feel he is the doer. He would remove the false Identification that he is the body. This false ego only made you feel you are a writer and that u did a great work....expecting results from that work made u feel even a normal person  rather then a Krishna devotee and the work done has simply became a karma kanda not karma yoga.

    • Here offering results or fruits to Krishna doesn't mean that u give him the share of the result..

in that case....even a thief does robbery and says... I will give God 50% or 85%of the loot.

It means doing work simply perfectly and whatever may be the result good or bad not caring for the result whether u may get million of rupees out of it or just a penny u don't care. all you care is doing the work perfectly and doing work realizing everything happens according to HIS WILL. EVEN the idea to write some content was given to you by LORD. realize that much and do work perfectly having 100% faith in lord without thinking of outcome. Hare Krishna.

  • Hare Krsna
If you are practicing Krsna consciousness properly then you cannot write a novel. Not because it is forbidden or anything like that but because a novel is fiction and Krsna consciousness is anything but fiction.
Even to write Krsna conscious literature one should follow in the footsteps of Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami the author of Sri Caitanya Caritamrta who took permission from the Vaisnavas who gave their consent. Similarly Satsvarupa Das Gosvami was given the consent for writing Srila Prabhupada Lilamrta.
  • Hare Krishna!
Please do not take this as any sort of criticism. In a lecture by Srila Prabhupada in Los Angeles in 1972 he said "any literature that does not glorify Lord Krishna is like a place where crows gather". Does your novel glorify Krishna?
    All glories to Lord Krishna!
    • yes prabhuji at a certain point my novel glorifies hare krishna maha mantra superficially. but i want to write this novel for making money so that i can perform full time devotional service for the rest of my life. i know the outcome estimated by me is not guaranteed but thats what i envisage and believe. if i get a chance to make huge money why dont take advantage of this opportunity and put half of money in krishna's service and rest is given to my family. i dont have any thoughts of using this money for my personal sense gratification but for krishna and family. but the real problem is not that my mentor is restricting me from writing. he is saying that give me any concrete reason for ur arguments. to test the quality of any stories we have to read it. there is no other way but he is initiated disciple so how can he read it and without reading it how can he declared that ur story would not put any impact as per his opinions. yes it may happen but atleast we should have knowledge of something to declare its productivity. he had allowed me if i would have given him any concrete reason. thats is my only concern

        Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

Firstly, let me put some things in perspective.

        1) You are saying that by writing one books, you will earn enough for a lifetime, that too after giving 50% as donation to temple??!!!

        2) You are saying that you dont need the money for personal sense gratification, but for Krsna and family. Giving money to family cannot be said "not for personal sense gratification". While it is the duty of a householder to provide for family, such providing cannot be called sacrifice, or not for self.

        3) What concrete reason for argument do you want? Writing is your means of earning livelihood - isnt writing then your prescribed duty? Why does Krsna Consciousness stop you from doing your prescribed duty?

        4) He is initiated disciple, so how can he read it .... where is it written prabhuji that initiated disciple cannot read your novel. His purpose of reading is not sense gratification, it is to guide you as your counsellor. Then what is stopping him from reading it?

I dont agree with the above points prabhuji. Dont we read newspapers or keep ourselves updated with the news somehow or other?

Krsna Consciousness broadens our horizons, does not restrict us. True seeker will find Krsna anywhere, because He is everywhere. It is our attitude and our sincerity of heart that matters to Krsna.

        • hare krishna mataji dandvat pranam

          1. i was looking to donate more than 85% acc. to the figure i thought. yes i have feelings i can make that much money it could be wrong also. i accept it

          2. mataji he said prescribed duty is something that was inflicting upon us by circumstances. but i took this task of writing novel by my own. writing novel is not my prescribed duty. i am preparing for govt job

3.he is in brahamachari ashram. he dont read newspapers to update himself. thats why i was saying that he wont read my literature.

            Hare Krsna Parbhuji,

So you think balance 15% will be enough for a lifetime for your family. OK, if you are OK.

You are preparing yourself for Govt job, not yet got, right?

However, in whatever circumstances, you have written this novel. How publishing a novel already written is against Krsna Consciuosness?

I still think there is no harm in that prabhuji reading your novel with a purpose to guide you.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

Krsna Consciousness does not prohibit us from following our prescribed duty. If yours is writing novels, so be it.

Looking at your counsellor's reservations, I need you to examine the following (dont even have to answer me, answer them for yourself).

    1) Does your novel have any porn like content?

    2) Is it an example of good prose, good language, or you are playing to the gallery, writing all nonsense (cheap jokes, lewd remarks).

    3) Why cant you publish it in Hindi itself. After all, the movie will be made in hindi.

Maybe you could approach movie makers now itself and try to sell the story to them. I dont know how it works.

This much I know - there are some film personalities who are interested in ISKCON. Atleast one actress of yesteryears (currently politician) even wants to take initiation. But the concerned guru maharaj is refusing to give her initiation till she leaves tinsel town. She is unable to leave. This is not a good profession prabhuji.

Since you are in the field of writing, maybe you could translate some books for ISKCON also, you could proof read some of the books before publishing. This is over and above your profession of writing. This way, you are using the writing profession in the service of Krsna and His devotees and at the same time writing as a means of livelihood. Of course, everything that you earn is not for you alone, you have to donate some of your earnings.

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
