  • Hare Krishna mataji,

Gold is a precious metal and it is an example for all that is glowing and shining. To like it with due respect for its value may not be wrong, is what I feel. Kali captures it when people attach greediness and possessiveness to it. The presence of Kali is conspicuous when people go mad to possess it.

So wearing it as a practice and not attaching any pride because of wearing it should be ok.

Moreover when the whole world is lured by gold and other precious ornaments, when devotees forgo that, the whole world might not understand them, rather deem them outcaste and would try only to avoid, not try to follow as examples. With the minimum usage of gold and not giving it more value than as a Mangal Sutra, one can use it in a detached manner, is what I feel.

These are just my opinions. If wrong anyone can please correct me and enlighten me with higher knowledge.

    Yours humbly

    Meena

    Hare Krishna,

Devotees generally offer to Lord what ever they buy including Gold. It is expected that a devotee lives a simple lifestyle. Meaning from what we wear to what we eat to how we lead the life - everything is very simple. Simple living and High thinking. The whole idea is to present ourselves as a humble servant in front of Lord. Instead of decorating oneself or one's wife with Jewelery, a devotee thinks how he/she can decorate the Lord with the same Jewelery. At the same time, those things that are according to scriptures are allowed like Mangala Sutra. The word Mangala means it is auspicious. So we need not worry much about these things. At the same time we should try to put a lot of gold jewelry to decorate ourselves.

    • Jai Shri Krishna..

I think there is a light mistake:

"At the same time we should try to put a lot of gold jewelry to decorate ourselves."  I'm sure you meant: At the same time we shouldn't try to put a lot of gold jewelry to decorate ourselves.

      A practical and good advice..thanks!
