Haribol mataji,
PAMHO.
No bhakti shastri is not necessary to take initiation. There are only 2 requirements - chant 16 and follow 4 regulative principles for initiation.
The rest can be temple specific. You should contact your local temple to find out what rules they have.
Its my service to reply to all queries that I can.
Haribol,
Your servant,
Rashmi
Hare Krsna dear Mataji,
PAMHO.
There is no need to get initiation to do bhakti shastri course.
The purpose of this course is better understanding of the scriptures and getting more spiritually advanced.
Reading the scriptures is one part of the course, the other is the sadhana one does, whether one is chanting 16 rounds everyday, what time of the day, whether only prasadam or veg or veg with onion, garlic, etc.
Haribol,
Your servant,
Rashmi
