BG Text 2 Explanation

Hare Krsna

All glories to Srila Prabhupada

I have a doubt in the second verse of the Bhagavad Gita

Sanjaya said: O King, after looking over the army arranged in military formation by the sons of Pändu, King Duryodhana went to his teacher and spoke the following words.

Srila Prabhupada writes at the end of his purport

Although Duryodhana is mentioned as the king, he still had to go to the commander on account of the seriousness of the situation. He was therefore quite fit to be a politician.

I have been having difficulty in understanding what is the relationship between 'he still had to go to the commander on account of the seriousness of the situation' and 'He was therefore quite fit to be a politician.'

How can going to the commander imply being fit to be a politician?

I know i am missing something very obvious but i have just not been able to figure out this for a long time now.

It would be great help if any devotee can explain this very nicely. Also it would be nice if the explanation could be supplemented by some reference to Srila Prabhupadas words or other parts of the scriptures.

Haribol.

will this increase our devotion to Krishna?

anyways Arnab Prabhu, please elaborate Your question nicely! What do want to know exactly?

    Your servant,

    • Hare krsna mataji,
      All glories to Srila prabhupada

My desire is to understand every word that Srila Prabhupada has written in the purports of Bhagavad Gita because every word is invaluable. By understanding I think I will be able to develop a strong faith and conviction in the words of Lord Sri Krsna. I am hopeful that this will help me improve my devotion.

I wanted to know the reason as to why Duryodhan is called as an expert politician. But I did understand now ,as explained by Zola prabhu in the earlier conversation.
I thank you for your concern for knowing my question more clearly.

if so it is very nice.

Duryodhana was called so because he was so. He was expert in politician and diplomacy. Because he was disciple of a perfect teacher also he was a kshatriya. Kshatriyas use politics in their duty.

        Your servant,

  • "To be a politician" means to be skillful at deviousness and flattery and using people for your own sense gratifiction. When Duryodhana went to Dronacarya, he went to flatter him. Remember, Dronacarya was beloved by the Pandava brothers and Duryodhana had reason to suspect Dronacarya would favor them in the battle. Duryodhana had to flatter Dronacarya to persuade him not to be lenient to the Pandavas.

Duryodhana was student to Dronacarya, so the etiquette still had to be followed. Duryodhana could not offend the guru and had to pretend he wnated and needed his advice.

    At least that's my understanding.

    • Hare Krsna Zola

      Thank you for the explanation.

I was trying to understand the second verse without giving the next one a thought. Missing the obvious.
