    Please accept my obeisances.

Maybe you could try thinking about the mantra while chanting it. Its curious that in some pases of the BG as it is SP is lik indirectly suggesting that whatever we are thinking about is where we are situating ourself in. You ever notest? He surely stated that whenever we think about Krishna we are automatically situated in the transcendental level. So there is no difference between the Lord and His Service(hearing, chanting, serving, remembering, surrendering ect) right? so we may conclude that hearing is a more passive and "receiving" way to realized God more related to Divine Mercy, while thinking is somehow more osactive, more related to our individual  independence feature of will. I have to advance this conclusions to Gurudev

That try for attentive chanting is our sadhana.

So we should always keep trying to chant attentive.

    We cannot chant attentively.

We can only understand our inability to chant attentively and that time TAKE SHELTER OF THE LORD.

That time we become humble, and surrender ...and that is the most dear quality to Krishna so He responds back.

And He will allow us to hear the Holy Name.

We chant 16 rounds so that at least we hear one or 2 Names properly.

    ...

    • Thanks matajis...what Rashmi mataji said is true...Chanting is best to be done in the morning and ya,mangal aarti is the biggest boost for our sadhana. Scriptures say that we should chant in a humble and prayerful mood.We should beg the mercy of Namacharya Srila Haridas Thakur, Nama Prabhu and the most merciful Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga....Like what Maral mataji said,we are only trying, practicing and one fine day, by the mercy of Guru and Gauranga, we will be able to chant the holy names of the lord with great attachement and may we get the real taste of the holy names. As for my own experience, dham smarana, meditating upon the dham of the Lord does help your mind from wandering and increases your interest to chant the holy names...but im still an offensive chanter...

Hopefully one fine day we will get the taste of the holy names and attain great spiritual bliss whenever we recite the mahamantra

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

You haev asked a question that we all are struggling with. How to be attentive while chanting - once we can achieve this, the rest is a cakewalk. Attentive chanting is the goal as well as the means.

I read those messages that keep circulating in whatsapp from time to time, have heard HG Mahatma Prabhu's lectures on the topic, have seen a presentation on attentive chanting.....not that I have been able to achieve attentive chanting....just telling you what is possible in our hands to do.....

Best is to chant in the morning and try to not plan the whole day while chanting. Mangal arti in the morning also helps to control the mind.

Actually I chant best when I am in trouble. The bigger the problem, the better my chanting. Kunti devi was absolutely right - we human beings are so selfish that we pray only when we are in trouble. Earlier I used to ask the lord for more trouble, but now I dont even do that - it becomes too much to handle.

You please give your thoughts mataji and give me some tips. What I have mentioned is simply my struggle story, I have not achieved it at all.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Rashmi
