this is very crucial step in your spiritual life and you have to take the final decision. certainly there are qualification required for every thing including what ashram you want to be in. No matter what ashram you are, the goal of life has to be to attain Krishna Prema - pure unalloyed devotional service to Lord Sri Krishna.

we have to chant hk 16 rounds daily and follow the 4 regulative principles daily - this is the minimum qualification for all devotees in general (no matter what ashram you are in). if you think you can strictly follow your vow of celibacy for rest of your life then you can consider brahamachari ashram. if not then its better to be in Grahasta ashram.

Bhakthi Vinod Thakura was a Grahasta and was a greate devotee of the lord and also a very great acharya in our parampara. While his son Bhakthi Siddantahasaraswathi Thakura was a Sanyasi. They did not see it differently at all because the object of their life was Krishna.

I always suggest devotees to talk to their seniors personally regarding this matter. they would have gone through the same confusion some time in their life and will definitely help us in getting better answers to our questions.
