Are we loosing our cultural identity ?

Over the years, India seems to be becoming increasingly influenced by the west and it seems that we are gradually loosing our cultural identity. By that, I mean , it is hard to clearly distinguish someone from the North Vs someone from East or West or South India. 10 or 15 years back, one can identify a particular person just by his behavior, attitude and some other cultural identities.

But, we are now loosing that identity and increasingly becoming the same (and that is mostly getting influenced by Western culture)

Is there any solution that can reverse this phenomenon although it looks extremely difficult as of now?

  • Yashvini, in comparison to gen public, devotees are exposed to a finer culture which is supported by the lifelong efforts of acharyas who have demonstrated exeamplary ways of living always in modesty n humility. On top of which they have added bhakti yoga pranayama n meditation.

The culture of the acharyas is extremely difficult without complete abandonment of daily matters, i would call it impossible or a waste of time to doit half complete.

But culture will indeed recede change fade away and eventually forget even thise great acharyas that we admire so much
  • Hare Krishna

Culture, customs, way of cothing etc. is a by product of necessity as earlier said, so the world is constantly changing and undergoing evolution so if one thing fails, another will replace it, sort of a self efficient/righting system. Its like the strongest survives principal. So, although some new principals like debts and all that are there, they won't last and will become replaced by a more better system, its like a stick and a reward principal in economics. 'Bad systems' will correct themselves.

Culture and customs, etc are a way of identifying us with our body, through citing the community, country, area, but in fact the whole world is Krishna's.so saying my culture, our principals, my community would make us more and more entangled in material nature's complexities and we aren't the body, we are the soul.

"We are trying to exploit the resources of material nature, but actually we are becoming more and more entangled in her complexities. Therefore, we are engaged in a hard struggle to conquer the stringent laws of material nature, but we are ever more dependent on it. This illusory struggle against material nature can be stopped at once by revival of our eternal Krishna Consciousness."

There, prabhupada said it, that just becoming Krishna conciouss would sove all problems. Just by watering the root, all leaves are nourished, similarly by serving Krishna, you serve everyone. So bad culture like disrespect for elders and the modern behaviour can be counteracted by adopting bhakti immediately.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Have you seen devotees of ISKCON from across the world? They may be completely different culturally, but they are all in sarees and everyone has one language - Hare Krsna. This movement has united the world.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

  • Culture is a byproduct of necessity; culture changes according to the needs of the people. What i perceove we are seeing on a worldwide scale is a flourishing of the society iof pleasure. Which is represented by the wealth and the freedom to enact sensual work with little money: accelerating ur cultures demise as well as mine is the desire propagated by culture and media of nice houses of opulence, in the reality of lack and need.

This will all collapse; how far ahead? Who knows, but as ur culture collapses it pulls all cultures apart. In truth what is happening is that the filth in all cultures of the world is being cleaned by the good people who perform gentle and kind acts, but it doesnt seem that this is enough, more money more loans more debt more pleasure without the capacity to pay it bavk. Imagine an ischemic limb, lack of blood aupply that is, throwing toxic compounds in the blood stream; other than war, or amputation, nothing can be done or we all die.
