Arati question

Hare Krsna and all glories to Prabhupada!  While doing arati - the circling of incense, ghee lamp and flowers, (for simpler version)

SRILA PRABHUPADA GIVES SOME RELAXATIONS:

He writes in a letter dated 18th November, 1968 :

“If you do not have the conch shell or fan available, the arati can consist of offering dhupa (incense), followed by the lamp and then a fragrant flower, accompanied by the chanting of Hare Krishna. In temples, the conch shell is also blown at the start of arati and the incense is offered before the lamp”.

Do you have to circle each item around each Pancha Tattva devotee?  Or can you do them all at once.ie. Circle around all five devotees at same time with each item instead of circling each item to the Pancha Tattva individually?  Thanks! Hare Krsna!

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

It depends on whether we have deities or photos. If you have deities, then show separately each item. If its a single photo, then we can show to all 5 at the same time.

Typically what happens is - in a temple, there are separate altars for each diety set (Radha Krsna, Panchatattva, Jagannath deities or Nrisimhadev). So the pujari who is doing arati at one altar has to offer all the items to that deity set only. Then he will offer everything separately. When we are offering arati at home, our altar typically has all the photos and maybe deities of some personalities. Anyways house worship is not so elaborate and exact as temple worship. So its ok to offer to one photo at the same time.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
