Acceptance

Hare Krishna!

Please accept my most humble obeisances.

I became a devotee as of March of this year.  I had obtained a copy of The Bhagavad-Gita As It Is and the Srimad Bhagavatam, of which I ready daily.  I found an ISKCON temple in the area where I live and I attend every Sunday.  I would like to attend more often, however, I live 25 miles away.  Since I have been attending temple,  I have found it hard to connect with the other devotees.  I read that it is important to keep a close connection in order to strengthen our Krishna Consciousness.  It is now August and I am a little concerned.  I also have another challenge which is of concern.  My family, and friends are not devotees.  They do not understand, especially my boyfriend of 11 years. He has no intention of marrying me and resents the changes I have made in my life.  When I am with him,  he insists on things to be as they were.  He feels hurt and abandoned. I often find myself giving into his need to have me in his life.  I love him but I am not able to carry out my complete service to Krishna when I am with him.  I had been thinking about initiation, however, I don't have a spiritual master. It's been hard to obtain one since I've had difficulty connecting with devotees at my temple.  I am really struggling right now.  What would you do if you were me?

Hari Bol,

  • If I were you and this love you have with your boyfriend is special then leaving him wouldn't be the right thing to do. You shouldn't forget that Krishna is not seperate from him either, and your relationship with him can be spiritual aswell even thoe he is not in favor of the changes you have made. You can honor the Krishna indwelling him aswell as perform your KC and this won't create a conflict. Don't create a duality between your relationship with him as being seperate from God because this is not so. The rest is upto you and only you can ultimately decide what is right for you.

    • Hare Krishna Darian!

Thank you so very much for giving a different perspective.  Krishna does dwell in everyone and everything.  I was so caught up in the struggle, I wasn't able to see.  Thank you again.

      hari Bol
