    http://www.iskcondesiretree.net/group/krishnaconsciousness/forum/to...

a lot of knowledge of everything about tilak to be found in this link.

  • It is not U shape as you think. It is the lotus feet of Krsna that is symbolized here.

Gopi chandan is nothing but the real dust of Vrindavan that Krsna played with his bare foot. The sand of Vrindavan, even today is very smooth.

The nature prepared itself for the Lord childhood pastimes in Vrindavan. No where else you can find such sand, even if it is found, Lord Krsna might not have stepped on it.

It was only in Vrindavan that Lord Krsna was barefoot. In all other places He used Padhukas.

    Hare Krsna

    • Hari Bol,

It is also called Vrindavan Raj (raj is another word for mitti or sand, but we dare not call it that, as it has been stepped on by Krishna). it has a pleasant scent just like chandan. In Vrindavan, to touch the raj the trees bend downwards. It is evident in Nidhiban. we can never find such trees anywhere else. Such is the mahima of the vrindavan raj.

We would be fortunate to put it on our foreheads. We would still not be able to explain its importance in words.

    • Jai vrindavan...
