  • For vegetarians, onion and garlic are equal to poison.

You have to wonder about exactly how toxic an onion is when the gas of it alone makes your eyes tear up. What's it doing to you when you put it into your stomach ?

    • Thank you prabu.. hare Krishna
    • not at all poison. no where is it written. those vapours which bring tear to your eyes are actually good since they clean the thin epithelial layers of the eyes and there are several other health benefits too. so much panic amongst the devotees on this onion garlic but most don't pay attention to cleanliness which is one of the pillars of dharma and when not taken seriously are invitation to dreadful repitiles insects and along with them diseases.

truthfulness cleanliness penances austerities no one cares!!

@saikrishna there are n number of articles on onion garlic just search but the comedy part is devotees contradict prabhupada on its origin. read my post "when arjun faced lord shiva"

      • According to Ayurveda,  foods are grouped into three categories – sattvic, rajasic and tamasic – foods in the modes of goodness, passion and ignorance. Onions and garlic, and the other alliaceous plants are classified as rajasic and tamasic, which means that they increase passion and ignorance.

Garlic and onions are both rajasic and tamasic, and are forbidden to yogis because they root the consciousness more firmly in the body”, says well-known authority on Ayurveda, Dr.Robert E.Svoboda

        • that's all ok . I replied because you over exhaggerated them as poison...lol. yes they may be causing obstacles to yogis but why create unwanted fear in common men?? and to speak the fact passion ignorance are all in our mind. onion garlic may play just 1-2% role. take example of vishwamitra who was attracted towards menaka and take the example of Arjun who didn't fall prey to urvashi. there are few yogis too who didn't get attracted to indras trap. I don't remember their names. so more stress should be given to our own self rather than these onion garlic issue. common men do suffer withdrawal symptoms and the end up in no mans land
