About churning of ocean

Hare Krishna to all the devotees

All glories to srila Prabhupada

In SB it is written that when demigods lost against demons they went to supreme personality of godhead Vishnu to help them and then the lord suggested that they should churn the ocean

it is written that demigods went to ksirodakasahi Vishnu, why didn't they went to Maha Vishnu, doesn't ksirodakasahi Vishnu enters into universes for their formation and garbodakashyahi Vishnu enters into soul and atoms to sustain them? Am I wrong?

Should demigods have not went to Maha Vishnu?

  • Madhava dasa prabhu ji answered nicely.

I will tell you one secret.

this whole episode began with Durvasa muni gifting Indra a garland... and Indra disrespects him and throws the garland away into the neck of airavata instead of wearing it.. I showed that he clearly disrecpected the muni and didn't accept the garland ( jaymala ) offered isn't it. It showed that Indra got some pride at this point. So when pride comes in there is always downfall. So as a result the demons defeated the demigods and then their downfall started... This made them go seek help of kshirodakshaya vishnu.. because krshirodakshaya vishnu is first one to be easily accessible as He is situated in our heart region.

Demigods asked their heart.( abode of Parmatma Kshirodakshaya VISHNU) .where did we go wrong.. they were suggested by Lord to ..constantly churned their heart ( churning of milky ocean) then.. the amrita came. ( that is pure thoughts came out) they realized their mistake and repented... Oh it is because of our pride this all happend  the literal meaning of samudra mantan is.. to understand and realize one's own mistake and sincerely repent.  Then asura ( bad thoughts) were defeated and good thoughts raise up as amrita and this made them pure again.. that is how the evil was eradicated.

jab hum ko pride ho jaata hai.. aur hum kisi ka apmaan ( santon ya bade aacharyon ka ) hai toh humara bhi patan hi hota hai jaise demigods ka hogaya the... here Indra represents the ( senses indriyan)... indriyon pe niyantran nahi hota hai toh vyakti ka patan hota hai aur jab patan hoga.......tab burai haavi hojayegi humpe ( jaise demigods ka defeat hogaya demons ne dev nagri heaven pe kabza kar liya...

samudra ka manthan hua.. mann Ur heart ( is otherwise called the abode of kshirodakshaya vishnu) the milky ocean is churned.. repeatedly thinking.. where did I go wrong why this happened.. REFLECtion upon is called Here as churing of the ocean.. aisa karne se mann mein achhai janam legi ( amrit ) aur buraai ka vinaash hoga.

Waise always there is a lot of internal meaning to all these tales.. they are not so easy to understand all these leelas of Lord have some internal meaning.

in sab ko jaane ke liye ek guru ki avashyakta hoti hai.

aisi hi padhne se upari upari gyan mil jaata hai lekin us gyan se haan maine padha karke pata chalega lekin... deep analysis nahi hoga na humko idea milega ki real meaning kya hoga is poori leela ka.. kyon ki demons toh aajkal nahi hote...demons  humare vikaar hai.

ab tum hi jaano agar humne kisi ka dil dukhaya kisi sant ka apmaan kiya aur humari patan hogayi toh hum kaha jaayenge... hum mann mein hi sochne lagenge .. humne aise kya kiya jiski wajah se humko ye din dekhne padhe... toh mann mein ek tarah ka churning shuru hoga na ( us churning ke fal swaroop humko.. ye pata chalega ki.. humne ye galti kiya.. mann ( milk) ko mathne se hi shudhh amrit roopi Maakhan baher aayega .. aur wahi maakhan Kanha ko sab se pyara hai. Mann ko mathne se hi toh makkhan niklego aur makkhan ittna shudh aur mulayam ki.. mann mein garv aur ahankaar sab mit jaayega aur mann mein shuddh prem nikal ke aayega wahi amrit hai. jisko devataon ko grahan karke apne mein jo vikaar hai.. kaam, krodh, lobh, madh, matsaya aur ahankaar in sab pe jay paana hai.. yehi vikaar hi demons hai.

Waise dekho na kitne goodh tareeke se bataya gaya hai leela..

The leela is told in parables so that it is not really understood by all..only few devotees who dive deep into the leela and for whom Krishna and Srila Prabhupada gives knowledge they can only understand the truth behind these leela... waise dekha jaaye toh.. harr leela jaisi dikhti hai waisi nahi hai..usmein bahut saare nigoodh batein chupi hui hai aur humko seekh samajha ne wale sirf ek guru hi hai. Aise hi kitaab padhne se matra katha yaad hogi bas.

You have not read the other Cantos in sequence and you are directly asking from the 8th Canto. Isn't it?

Firstly, Maha Visnu who is the 1st Purusa avatara is situated outside this universe so the demigods of this universe have no access to Him.

Maha Visnu enters each universe as the 2nd Purusa avatara who is known as Garbhodakasayi Visnu, Lord Brahma is born from the lotus stem emanating from the navel of this Garbhodakasayi Visnu.  This Visnu lies down in the Garbhodaka ocean which fills up half the universe.

The same Garbhodakasayi Visnu enters into the heart of every particle or living being as Ksirodakasayi Visnu as the 3rd Purusa avatara who is also generally known as Paramatma.

Now, it is this Paramatma or Ksirodakasayi Visnu who lies in the ocean of milk within this universe in a place called Svetadvipa Whom Lord Brahma can approach for help when there are disturbances beyond his control. As explained in Srimad-Bhagavatam Lord Brahma waits on the shore of the milk ocean and meditates on the Ksirodakasayi Visnu from within his heart because even he cannot directly see Ksirodakasayi Visnu. The Lord communicates with Lord Brahma from within the heart.

All this is well explained by Srila Prabhupada and it is easy to follow if you read the Srimad-Bhagavatam in sequence from 1st Canto to last Canto without haphazardly jumping from here to there.

    • Hare Krishna Prabhu ji,

Sorry I just wanted to read about churning of ocean, so I read it from vedabase since I don't have the hard copy of SB, so there were no purports (or I just couldn't find them), and I jumblled up garbodakashyahi Vishnu and ksirodakasayi Vishnu,

And think you very much for your clarification
