    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

It is important to chant - to take the name of Krsna, whether on beads, on counter, on excel, on fingers..... doesnt matter. Taking the name with feeling of surrender and attentive hearing only matters.

Having said that, the standard is to chant on beads, that is most purifying. When we chant on beads, we are pressing the bead between our thumb tip and middle finger, 1st partition tip. There is a nerve there that gets activated by the pressure of the beads, that helps in spiritual growth. If we chant on the ring finger, then we will get peace. If we chant on the little finger, then we will get siddhis. All of these are for chanting with beads.

Chant mataji, that is more important.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Rashmi

Short answer to your question is: Yes, it is important to chant on beads.

Answer to your second question is: Yes, counters can be used but for rounds after the minimum 16 rounds or the fixed rounds.

To develop constant Krishna consciousness, one has to chant on beads. However, since chanting on beads is often not possible all the time, a devotee makes an alternative to chant on the counters.

One has to chant minimum 16 rounds. When one says "I have done my rounds", it means they have completed their 16 rounds on the beads. Any additional rounds can be done either on the beads itself or using the counters.

A devotee can start with a fixed number of rounds on the beads, say 1, 3,4, 8,10, 12 (number can be anything) etc and has to make sure that the fixed rounds are completed for the day. Devotee can throughout the day chant on counters but shouldnt consider it as an additional round. Devotee then needs to increase the fixed number closer to the minimum 16.

Hope the info helped you mataji.

    Hare krsna
