Hare Krishna to all the devotees
All glories to srila Prabhupada
Dear devotees,
Many people think that there are 33 crore gods/demigods in sanatana Dharma (or Hinduism).
I saw a short a long time ago , which was most probably a scene of movie of something like that, a boy (a sanatani in movie) tells some english man that "I cannot make 33 crore devi devtas but I can make 33 koti Devi devatas". So I got to know or atleast think that 33 crore was a miss spelled word in translation.
But I want to know the stake of the devotees and leanred people here whether or not it is true.
ARE there really 33 crore devi devatas. OR 33 koti Devi devatas? If 33 koti- can you please tell which one come in it?

Hare Krishna,
33 koti devi devatas means not 33 crore. There are 33 prakaar ke devi devatas.
like we have apples, mangoes, oranges, bananas...etc. but all are categorized under one subheading as fruits
then we have vegetables- tomatoes, potatoes, carrot, brinjal all are put under one category as vegetables
so like this there are 33 prakaar ke devi devatas.
broadly speaking- 12 aadityas, 11 rudras, 8 vasus, 2 ashwins. 12+11+8+2=33 categories
uchh koti ke log means.. ( one who are belonging to higher catergory)
so you cannot say they are 1 crore in number.. it is talking about the quality not quantity.

So there are 33 koti not crore 👍

After reading the universal form chapter of the BG, I think that there are unlimited number of demigods. The lords opulences are unlimited so how can there be any finite number of demigods?
The scientists estimate that there are billions of galaxies and planets. Each planet has a presiding deity. We currently know the presiding deity of sun moon Mars Jupiter Venus mercury Saturn and ofcourse our earth courtesy of astrology so similarly there may be others also
