Seeing the cows and elderly cowherds rush to greet their calves and sons, Balarama was concerned that the very essence of Vrindavana seemed to be lost. How could maya enter into the Lord’s domain?

What is maya? Separate interest. “I love my son more than another boy.” This is material life—separate interest. And in spiritual life, in Vrindavana, Krishna is the center. The mothers there love Krishna more than their own sons, and their sons love Krishna more than they do their mothers. In this sens

Important thing is to become God conscious

Tuesday, 4 April 1972

Caru had been successful in arranging for Srila Prabhupada to appear on a number of Sydney television shows. The first one was scheduled for 7.30am -- the popular live-to-air breakfast-time chat show Sydney Today, hosted by Andrew Harwood.

Prabhupada travelled to the Channel Seven studios in a car with some of his senior disciples, while about 10 brahmacaris followed in the Volkswagen van. While everyone sat in the reception room wait

Mridanga

The devotees again drove Srila Prabhupada to the temple in the double-decker bus for the evening program. He once more enjoyed the ride, as devotees performed kirtana on the twenty-minute drive through rush hour traffic.

After the Bhagavad-gita class, Nanda Kumara led a particularly sweet and ecstatic kirtana. Srila Prabhupada was playing karatals with his eyes closed and a look of intense concentration on his face. Suddenly Nanda Kumara's hand went right through the large head of the dru

Even the demigods come to participate

A speaking engagement had been arranged for Srila Prabhupada at Sydney University. In the afternoon, a large group of devotees accompanied Srila Prabhupada in the double-decker bus to the outskirts of the grounds. Srila Prabhupada walked regally with the kirtana procession as it wound through the central walkways of the campus. Devotees carried framed pictures of Krsna and the maha-mantra, while others carried various necessities for the engagement. Passing a

Opportunity to glorify Lord Krsna

Monday, 3 April 1972

Srila Prabhupada spoke throughout the night. As the sun rose and some devotees arrived from the temple for Prabhupada's walk, Srila Prabhupada was still talking with Syamasundara. Some devotees recalled the verse from the Bhagavad-gita: "Always chanting My glories, endeavouring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship me with devotion."

Srila Prabhupada decided not to go on a morning walk. Mohananan

Preaching spirit

Before leaving for the temple that afternoon, Srila Prabhupada had been sitting in his room talking with his senior disciples. Scholarly, bespectacled Pradyumna had come to Prabhupada with various technical questions on Sanskrit vocabulary. Prabhupada, as he often did, had turned the conversation into a full-blown philosophical discussion. The devotees present had relished the opportunity of witnessing Prabhupada's exhilarating presentation of Krsna consciousness, and were especi

When Is Self Defence Necessary

The Bhagavad-Gita was spoken on the battlefield and so one of its teachings is to know when self-defense is necessary. It was the will of Lord Krishna that all the soldiers on both sides, except for the Pandavas, would not go back home. It made no difference whether Arjuna took part in the war or not. Arjuna was merely an instrument that Lord Krishna used to destroy the soldiers on both sides. Even before the war started, Lord Krishna showed Arjuna, the soldiers being destroyed.

Due to the impending major flooding of the Mississippi River in and around New Orleans, the organizers been forced to cancel the Rathayatra Festival, scheduled for May 21 and 22.

The scope of this flood event is practically unprecedented, and the ISKCON devotees in New Orleans ask all to extend their prayers and best wishes to all those whose well-being and property may again be at risk in the thrice hard-hit region.

The tentative new festival date will be sometime in November, around the 19th.

One professional reciter was reciting about Bhāgavata, and he was describing that Kṛṣṇa, being very highly decorated with all jewels, He is sent for tending the cows in the forest. There was a thief in that meeting. He thought that "Why not then go to Vṛndāvana and plunder this boy? He is in the forest with so many valuable jewels. I can go there and catch the child and take all the jewels." That was his intention. He was serious that "I must find that boy. Then in one night I shall become milli

On the subject of the supreme goal of life, Ramananda first proposed observance of the four orders of social and spiritual life and executing one's duties in accordance with these. Next, one after another, he mentioned renouncing the fruits of one's activities, rendering formal service to the Lord, serving the Lord in devotion mixed with knowledge, and finally pure devotional service.

Though Mahaprabhu assented that the rendering of pure devotional service is the entrance into the ultimate goal
