By Madhava Smullen

Events

ISKCON Fiji held its first ever Kirtan Mela in the island nation’s capital, Suva, from June 8thto 10th, to a rapturous reception.

The event was organized by Braja Govinda Das, a Sydney-based disciple of Tamal Krishna Goswami, who wanted to give Fijian devotees the kind of international kirtan experience they hadn’t had before.

About sixty international devotees – mainly from Australia and New Zealand – attended, along with several hundred from Fiji.

Kirtan Where It Helps

Most of my stepping today was in the city above, done during our Hari Nama Sankirtan practice.  Approximately twenty-five of us danced or paced up and down through this trendy downtown, armed with mrdangadrum, kartals(cymbals) and our own good cheer.

It’s funny how people respond to our group.  It ranges from disdain, to indifference, to happiness.  Obviously, we come across as religious, and some store owners don’t see us as a draw to their merchandise.  There are a lo

In honor of Yamaraja Prabhu

Lilasuka dasi: In gratitude to His Grace Yamaraja das, cent percent servant of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, to whom the depth of debt that I owe I may never fully know.

Recently I heard that scheduled visits to be with you before your departure were being organized. My eyes widened at the opportunity but I hesitated for too long… primarily due to bodily identification and with doubts such as, “Who am I, with essentially no external connection to you to be so bold

I am really fortunate because rains have been in abundance, more than usual. It has left everything very green.  Locals say, “It is usually dry at this time.”

The village of Romanacos is approximately seven kilometres from the farm, Vrajamandala. A kind person, Vishnu Dharma, drove us to the top of the hill, right to the site of the village.  There sits an old church from the 16thcentury. A tiny snake seemed to take refuge in the area.  He shared the road with us—Nir, Julan and Lyla.     https

For centuries, Muslim poets have revealed their attraction to all-attractive Lord Krishna.

In Chaitanya-charitamrita (Madhya 22.80), Lord Chaitanya lists “poetic” as one of the twenty-six qualities of a Vaishnava, a devotee of Lord Krishna. He Himself demonstrates a poetic flair in His Sikshashtakam by using seven metaphors to elucidate the benefits of chanting the holy names of the Lord. The Supreme Lord is often referred to as Uttamahshloka: He who is praised

Do We Complain Too Much?

By Kesava Krsna dasa – GRS

Here we are, entombed within these bodies as animated walking talking transformations of food, shaped and destined according to our will, getting whipped by our own past deviations by natural justice, yet feel raw injustice enough to complain about our own undoing. SB.1.7.5 – Due to this eternal energy, the living entity, although transcendental to the three modes of material nature, thinks of himself as a material product and thus undergoes the reactions of material

A Small Strip of Spain

Alberto, an Italian-born devotee of Krishna, was right there at the Madrid Airport waiting to drive me for a one-hour stretch to the peaceful Spanish countryside at the retreat farm of Vrajamandala.  Residents number thirty.  There are six children of school age, five cows, one ox and a recently born, five-day-old bull, Baladeva.

The river, Tajuña, runs through the 350 acre property.  It was irresistible to walk from the town of Guadalajara (not the big city) of modest

Meeting with Book Distributors

2515253372?profile=original

By Giriraj Swami

we were blessed with the association of seven stalwart brahmachari book distributors who are following the Warped music tour. They arrived the night before, attended our entire morning program, and then, after breakfast, we discussed various aspects of the practice and preaching of Krishna consciousness. These devotees are extending Srila Prabhupada and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s mercy to many, many fortunate fallen souls.

Hare Krishna.

The Invasion by Bhaktimarga Swami

It is one of those days where I cannot sulk, but be a trifle sad about not walking.  The air travel restricts the possibility.  I flew in from Calgary this morning.  By 3:15 a.m., I was off to the airport for a flight to Madrid to meet up with the Cuban connection, that is those who were or are affiliated with our mission there.

In the moments of waiting for Air Canada Flight 863 to call for passengers to get ready for boarding, I contemplated those appalling photos I had viewed from a recent

In Glorification of Yamaraja Prabhu

By Krishna-kripa Das

Yamaraja Dasa, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada who served BTG for decades and left his body a few days back, was a great soul. I wrote a letter thanking him for how he benefited me and our ISKCON society in general. Shri-Ram Poddar gave the letter to Punya Kirti Prabhu, who read it to Yamaraja the day before he left. Punya Kirti said upon hearing it, Yamaraja Prabhu smiled. I shared the letter with my Facebook friends to glorify him, and because many people liked it, I decid

Wait Until I Am Dead

2515037008?profile=original

By Kavicandra Swami

Whenever a devotee leaves his or her body, we hear so much praise of them. Everyone becomes happy to be absorbed glorifying a devotee. It seems that we do not do enough of praising devotees while they are with us. Of course a devotee should not be hankering to be praised. St. Francis of Assisi would tell those who started to praise him, “Wait until I am dead, I could fall down at any time”. Of course that just makes him more worthy of praise.

“Offering all respect to others,
