GURU

GURU

2514801959?profile=original

Second offense

September 2nd, 1976

On the morning walk an English boy, Ravi dasa, who just received second initiation, raised a question about the second offence in chanting, which states that we should not equate the name of the demigods with Krsna's. He asked, "So how are we to understand the name of the spiritual master? In kirtana when we chant the name of the spiritual master, is that as spiritually potent?"

Lokanatha Swami attempted to answer first, explaining that the spiritual master's posi

We Can Rise Above It?

The modes of material nature in this way are afflicting us. But we are not helpless in the matter. The modes of material nature may create waves for us, and these waves comes through our consciousness - due to our conditioning and these influences as I described earlier a little bit in astrological terms. So we can clearly see that they are there, but we can rise above it, and that is what we can do by taking shelter.

So the waves that are there drag us along, but

We Want to Make Everyone Happy

Our mission is to see that every man, woman, and child on the face of this planet is peaceful, well-fed, and happy. This is of course is quite a herculean task. It would seem, considering the present world situation, that to accomplish such a mission would be completely impossible. But impossible dreams are the stuff that heroes are made of. Positive thinking is empowering and negative thinking is debilitating. If one thinks positively, he can always maintain his youthful enthusiasm and accompli

Initiation Ceremony

Srila Prabhupada went down to preside over an initiation ceremony, in which he awarded first initiation to ten men, and second initiation to nine, all mainly boys from Lokanatha Swami's party. Although they are enthusiastic in kirtana, it was apparent that they are "raw recruits" and need a lot of training. The yajna was held in the cramped temple room and Prabhupada had to twice tell them when they came forward for their beads and names not to touch the sacrificial parapherna

Srila Prabhupada's Faith in the Holy Name

A talk by Giriraj Swami delivered at a japa retreat in Srila Prabhupada'sPalace, New Vrindaban, West Virginia, on April 9, 2009.

As we were chanting, I looked at the picture of Srila Prabhupada on thewall, painted from a photograph of him from 1966, and I thought of how hecame to the Western world to give us the holy name. He did so on the orderof his spiritual master, with full faith in the holy name, that if peoplelike us would just chant the holy name everything else would follow.
