Dress to please Krsna

Prabhupada: Why your dress is not as a sannyasi?

Tusta Krsna: The robes make people uncomfortable, Prabhupada. They see you as different and can't relate. They won't relax enough to listen when I wear robes.

Prabhupada: But sannyasis must dress in saffron with robes and shaven head.

Tusta Krsna: I am following all the principles, but the dress is external and superficial. Why should we let it hamper the preaching?

Prabhupada: If the dress is superficial, why should you change your dress to please pe

Hare krsna Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

My wife Bhaktin Shannon and I were moving from our base in Arkansas to New Vrindavan. After a few hours of driving, we decided to take a break and take advantage of a local mall in the suburbs of St. Louis to distribute some books and Prasadam. It was 9pm. We noticed most of the people were milling around the Starbucks on the corner. We struck up a conversation with the two ladies behind the counter, mentionin

Why is Krishna Really Blue?

Question: Why is Krishna Really Blue?

I found a article from last week which gave an impersonalistic interpretation as to why Krishna is blue.

Here is the article:

In Hinduism, Gods like Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, Lord Ram and Lord Shiva are shown as having blue or dusky skin. The color of the skin is shown as either blue or sometimes black. Hindu religion is full of symbolisms and the blue color is also a symbol. Most avatars of Hindu gods are also shown in blue color.

Blue is the color of the infi

Have A Long Term Habit Change

sage%2527s%2Bdistractions.jpg
So to have a long term habit change… in other words we want to change our bad habit, once and for all, so that from this day forward we are always chanting with attention and never being distracted (or whatever behavior we want to do) and never slip back into the wrong chanting or the wrong behavior, wrong habit.

Inspirational Nectar

"This uncontrolled mind is the greatest enemy of the living entity. If
one neglects it or gives it a chance, it will grow more and more
powerful and will become victorious. Although it is not factual, it is
very strong. It covers the constitutional position of the soul. O
King, please try to conquer this mind by the weapon of service to the
lotus feet of the spiritual master and of the Supreme Personality of
Godhead. Do this with great care."

So called Spiritualist

So called Spiritualist

There are many so-called spiritualists who outwardly pose as advanced in the science but inwardly or privately are completely under particular modes of nature which they are unable to surpass.Academically, one may be very learned, but because of his long association with material nature, he is in bondage. Krsna consciousness helps one to get out of the material entanglement, even though one may be engaged in his prescribed duties in terms of material existence. Therefore,

srila prabhupada said

With Prabhupada's permission, the devotees scheduled him for the all-night Uncle Jay Show, a talk show on radio station WMEX. At 11:00 P.M. three devotees-Satsvarupa and Pradyumna, in suits and ties, and Jadurani in a sari-went on the air. Prabhupada was scheduled to join them at 3 o'clock.

"I have before me in the studio tonight," Uncle Jay began, "two nice young men and a young woman who have normal American names like Steve and Paul and Judy. And when you hear them speak, they sound like norm

Current examples

One should always remember that as long as he has a material body he must face the miseries of repeated birth, old age, disease and death. There is no use in making plans to get rid of these miseries of the material body. The best course is to find out the means by which one may regain his spiritual identity.

The living being is in the state of forgetfulness of his relation with God due to his being overly attracted to material sense gratification from time immemorial. His struggle for existence

One should not be attached to more than the necessities of life required for spiritual advancement.

One should know, however, that all the necessities of life that the human society requires are supplied by the demigod agents of the Lord. No one can manufacture anything. Take, for example, all the eatables of human society. These eatables include grains, fruits, vegetables, milk, sugar, etc., for the persons in the mode of goodness, and also eatables for the nonvegetarians, like meats, none of wh

Recognizing an opportunity

When the great library of Alexandria burned, the story goes, one book was saved. But it was not a valuable book; and so a poor man, who could read a little, bought it for a few coppers. The book wasn't very interesting, but between its pages there was something very interesting indeed. It was a thin strip of vellum on which was written the secret of the "Touchstone"!

The touchstone was a small pebble that could turn any common metal into pure gold. The writing explained that it was lying among th

Natural Attachment

One should not be more attached to wife, children and home than the revealed scriptures ordain.
We are very much attached to our so-called home, so-called wife, children. And here is, jnana means that asaktir anabhisvangah, asaktir. You should, therefore, at a certain age, according to Vedic civilization, one is forced to give up this attachment. Naturally, one is attached to wife, children, home.
