Even though Guru Maharaj was not feeling well, He still gave a class on Bhagavatam yesterday (8th July 2002) evening - it was extremely wonderful.
Guru Maharaj said that:

1st Canto: Adhikar Lila - qualifies one to understand rest of the 11 Cantos
2nd Canto: Gyan Lila - provides us thorough knowledge.

Srila Prabhupada gives a very strong punch in the purport for SB 1.2.12:

Why Worship Form of Formless God?

Question: Hare Krishna, Guru Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances All glories to Srila Prabhupada and his followers.

I would like to know how to answer the question posed by a Muslim:

Why do you worship the form of God in the temple when God is formless?

Joy

Answer: God isn't Formless. His Form is Unlimited.

If a Muslim asks such a question, he is not learned in his own scripture, the Qur'an clearly states as follows::

Wa lillaahil - Mashriqu wal-Magrib: Fa- 'aynamaa tu-walluu fa-samma Wajhu

I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the beautiful pointers Maharaj gave in my recent conversation with him. He gave powerful instructions which would inspire us in our struggle to gain a stable footing in our spiritual lives. Maharaj was telling that devotees’ nature centers around 3 simple ‘C’s!! Cool, Calm and Composed. He was explaining very nicely that come what may the material

Misleading Missionaries

Misleading Missionaries

by Jayadvaita Swami

from Back to Godhead, November-December 1993

Recently I attended a conference held to honor an Indian missionary who’d come to America a century ago bearing India’s message of Vedanta. Though in America his name is now all but forgotten (if ever it was known), back home in India his fame lives on, his impact on the West still an item of national pride.

The conference, a gala event put on for a million and a half dollars by a worldwide body of Hindus, feat

Where Do the Fallen Souls Fall From?

On learning that the material world is not our real home,
we naturally wonder, “How did we get here?”

by Jayadvaita Swami

from Back to Godhead, May-June 1993

When we hear that we live in this material world because we are “fallen souls,” it’s natural for us to ask, “Where have we fallen from?”

Srila Prabhupada says that as living souls we are all originally Krishna conscious. But what does that mean? Were we all originally with Krishna in the spiritual world? And if so, how could we ever have fallen

Well-Rounded Point of View

Posted on January 29, 2012

Amogha: Usually in modern education they have the idea called “well-rounded point of view.” They want to take some from here, from there, from that one and that one, that one, and then think about them all, and come up with a conclusion. So he is thinking it doesn’t fit with their pattern of reasoning, how we take from one source and get the proper conclusion. They think they have to get from many sources and compare.

Prabhupada: How… I can reply

How every son should think

Posted on January 30, 2012

When He [Caitanya Mahaprabhu] took sannyasa and the mother came… Advaita Prabhu arranged to see for the last time her son. Because a sannyasi is no more coming home. So at that time, mother became overwhelmed: “Such beautiful body. He has nice hair. Now it is shaven.” So she became very much overwhelmed and was crying. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu immediately fell down on her lotus feet and He said, “My dear mother, this body is yours. My dear mother

The Greatness of Srila Madhvacarya

Posted on February 1, 2012

In the forest when the foxes and jackals and wolves howl it can be very daunting. They howl at various pitches with all their energy seemingly competing for prominence amongst each other. Amid all the screeching and screaming and squeaking and squawking in the forest, when the simplest roar of the lion pervades, announcing its own might, dragging the hearts of the wolves and others down to their knees in utter disappointment, the truth becomes obv

Elimination of Sins at various levels of Bhakti

2514857596?profile=originalSrila Jiva Gosvami comments that bhakti may be divided into two divisions:

(1) santata, devotional service that continues incessantly with faith and love, and Incessantly flowing devotional service (santata) may also be divided into two categories:

(1) service performed with slight attachment and

(2) spontaneous devotional service.

(2) kadacitki, devotional service that does not continue incessantly but is sometimes awakened. Intermittent devotional service (kadacitki) may be divided into three cat

The association of Bhagavatam is very auspicious as Bhagavatam is nondifferent from Krishna. By constantly associating with Bhagavatam, devotees become satisfied. Devotees are fully satisfied with minimum necessities. Devotees do not hanker for material things. This is because of Bhakti.

If things are coming to us, it is good. If it does not come, it is best because we have more t

Students as future leaders

As students you can use all your gifts for the ultimate welfare of the human society and in the service of God. Always remain in the mood of a humble person. Always recognize that whatever knowledge or abilities you have, they are by the grace of God. We may work hard to develop them, but without God’s grace, we have nothing to develop. God gives everyone a potential, and it is our free will how we’re going to utilize that potential and for whom.

You should do your studies as best as you can wi

Thought Of The Day

woman's nature is very mild, and man's nature very strong. That is the difference. Therefore according to Vedic civilization, the woman must be protected because they are very simple. They can be led to goodness also very easily, and they can be polluted also very easily. By nature, they are very simple. Therefore sastra says that... Just like child. If you mold the character of a child from the very beginning, then he can become a great man. Similarly, if you train woman from the very beginning

Here is an interesting punch from Srila Prabhupada’s purport in Srimad-Bhagavatam1.9.12 as discovered by Maharaj in his latest visit to Minneapolis. Lying on the bed of arrows, when Bhismadeva is passing away in the presence of Lord Krsna, he told Yudishtira Maharaj,
