On the 24th August 2011, more than 2500 devotees and members of the public took part in the Jaganatha Ratha Yatra festival organized by Caitanya Cultural Society in Singapore.

A huge 15-feet high silver ratha (made out of 4500kg of silver) was brought from the Perumal Temple and was initially meant to be used for the Ratha Yatra. However, owing to its height the Silver Ratha could not enter the Toa
Payoh stadium. With immense enthusiasm and within a few hours time the devotees made another Ratha

Thought Of The Day

As far as the conditioned soul is concerned, there is no wonder that he has some sinful activities in his past life, and this should be admitted and confessed before the Lord. As soon as this is done, the Lord excuses the sincere devotee. But that does not mean that one should take advantage of the Lord’s causeless mercy and expect to be excused over and over again, while he commits the same sinful activities. NOD Page 81

What is Pure Bhakti?

What is Pure Bhakti?

"Bhakti, or devotional service, means engaging all our senses in the service of the Lord, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the master of all the senses. When the spirit soul renders service unto the Supreme, there are two side effects. One is freed from all material designations, and one’s senses are purified simply by being employed in the service of the Lord." (Cc. Madhya 19.170)

Be master of mouth, not slave of words

Hare Krishna Friends,
Lord Krishna talks in Bhagavad Gita about two important negative qualities that we should get rid of. They are apaishunam and paarushyam. Apaishunam
means fault-finding and paarushyam means harsh speech. Krishna refers to these qualities asdemoniac qualities. When we are filled with pride,
arrogance, conceit and anger then automatically our speech is also harsh. Paarushyam or harsh speech causes great pain to others.
In the pastime of Dhruva Maharaj, we find that he innocently

Two Pocket Propensity

Dharma or duty should never be performed for material gain. But people do it so all the time. Still, the Bhagavatam is saying, “No, not for that purpose”. So, for what purpose? Bhagavatam says it is for apavarga. Srila Prabhupada very brilliantly and beautifully translates apavarga as ultimate liberation, making a distinction between the merging kind of liberation and vaisnava liberation, where one engages in service to Krishna eternally on the spiritual platform in the spiritual realm, or where

Prabhupada is so Perfect

Hare Krishna!

Dandvat Pranams to all…

This is a story about how Srila Pabhupad instructed his disciple about cocoa contained in chocolates and inspired that disciple to get higher taste.

Prabhupad took under his care a small orphan boy. Among other services, this boy was given one service of buying vegetables from the market for Srila Prabhupad’s kitchen.

One day (specifically in the summer of year 1973) the boy bought some chocolates (cadbury and 5 star) using the left over money, instead of retur

Interactions

Prabhupada was scheduled to speak at the centre that night. The devotees had set up Prabhupada's vyasasana at the end of the expansive hall. The combined colour scheme was quite striking -- the maha-mantra was painted all around the burnt-orange walls in metre-high dark brown lettering. Illumination came from bright red and yellow paper lanterns hanging from the tall ceiling. Mounted on the back wall was an enormous black and white photographic profile of Srila Prabhupada. Finding What We Have Lost

Sometimes when we lose something which is very valuable and necessary for us, such as our wallet, it becomes such a great disturbance that our entire consciousness becomes absorbed in finding that missing thing. For example, even while eating we may think of that missing thing instead of our meal. Or we may awaken in the morning to find ourselves wondering where is that missing valuable as the only thing worth thinking about.

In the same way we should realize that we have lost the absolutely mos

How Demigods Can Be Mortals?

Question:  How Demigods Can Be Mortals?

You have stated that the demigods are mortals like us. How can you confirm this when there is so much difference between the demigods and ourselves?  How can you say that they are in the same category as ordinary humans?

Thank you.

Sarbesh Sharma

Answer: They Die When the Universe is Destroyed

The answer is very simple. When the powerful demon Hiranyakasipu petitioned the chief demigod Lord Brahma for the boon of immortality Brahmaji told him, "Since I am not

How to approach the Holy Dham

Hare Krishnai,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All gloris to Srila Prabhupada.

It is a wonderful opportunity to go to Vrindavan dham! Asking the devotees how to approach the holy Dham..this is a really strong example to everyone.

The fact is that one cannot enter into the Holy Dham simply by purchasing a ticket, as Srila Gurudeva Sankarshan Das Adhikari says: The Dham is not so much a place that is materially accessible but actually a state of consciousness that attained only by the mercy of the

Another example given in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam concerns the elephant who
enters into a lake and takes a bath very seriously, cleansing his body
thoroughly. Then as soon as he comes onto shore he again takes some
dust from the earth and throws it over his body. Similarly, a person
who is not trained in Kṛṣṇa consciousness cannot become completely
free from the desire for sinful activities. Neither the yoga process
nor philosophical speculations nor fruitive activities can save one
from the seeds of sinful d

How to Be Joyful at Work?

Question: How to Be Joyful at Work?

Your daily thoughts are always joyful. You have written how you spend your day in dedication to Krishna. How do we dedicate our mundane jobs to Krishna and be joyful doing this work every day?

Your servant,

Manish.

Answer: Work Only for Krishna

The way to transcendentalize your job is to spend every penny you earn for Krishna and not even one penny for sense gratification. This means that you must transform your home into a Krishna conscious ashram. In this way yo

The basic problem plaguing and torturing the modern human society is that we lack gratitude. We do not know how to live gratefully. We do not feel duty bound to reciprocate with the unlimited kindness that Krishna or God is giving us at every minute. We have no qualms about taking as much sense gratification as want. But when it comes to giving back to that Supreme Person, who is supplying us everything, we either enviously deny His existence or pester Him with our material desires. Thus we live

Power of mahaprasadam

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The power of Mahaprasadam should never be underestimated. In Srimad Bhagavatam we have the story of Srila Narada Muni's previous birth which he narrates to Srila Vyasadev about how he became such a powerful devotee. In his previous life, Narada muni was serving in the ashram of a few sages along with his mother who was a maid-servant. He says in Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.5.25:

Perfect education

Posted on August 29, 2011Filed under BVKS SangaIf simply we understand that “Krsna is the Supreme Person. He is great, andwe are all subordinate. So our duty is to serve Krsna,” these two lines, ifwe understand, then our life is perfect. If we simply learn how to worshipKrsna, how to please Him, how to dress Him nicely, how to give Him nicefoodstuff, how to decorate Him with ornaments and flowers, how to offer ourrespectful obeisances unto Him, how to chant His name, in this way, if wesimply thi
