HG Shyamlal Prabhu with HH Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaj

Our very dear Godbrother, Shyamlal Prabhu, left his body on the evening of 5th January in Durban, South Africa. I was in Pune, India, at that time. However, as soon as I received that news I decided to go to Durban to bid my farewell to him. I immediately made changes to my schedule and drove to Mumbai to catch a flight to South Africa.

The funeral took place on the morning of 7th of January 2014 and I was fortunate enough to be there in time to attend that ceremony. Thousands of Shyamlal Pr

Thought Of The Day

Prabhupada: That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mission, that asat-sanga tyaga vaisnava acara. The Vaisnava's behavior is to give up bad company. Who is bad? Next question will be that "I have to give up the bad company. Who is bad?" Then He says, next line: asat stri sangi 'krsnabhakta' ara. Two words. Those who are too much attached to woman and those who are not devotees of Krsna, they are bad. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu says give up the company of these two bad men, that's all. That is Vaisnava. So ev

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Nachiketa's story in the Kathopanishad begins when his wealthy father, Vajashravas, is to perform a special sacrifice. The sacrifice required Vajashravas to give all his wealth, all his possessions, and distribute them to the great seers and Brahmins. It was a rare sacrifice performed only by the most highly advanced aspirants. One who could give up all transitory things would have the knowledge of Brahman, the knowled

Is it beneficial to chant

more rounds without feeling or eagerness ?

One should try hard to constantly chant the holy names of Krishna clearly and lovingly rather than trying to increase the number of rounds.

-          Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur
(Quoted in his famous book ‘Hari Nama Cintamani)
as cited in page 109 of ‘Bhaktivinoda Vani Vaibhava’.

Svāṁśa means personal expansions

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Svāṁśa means personal expansions. And another expansion is differential expansion.
Lecture on SB 3.25.27 -- Bombay, November 27, 1974
The Vedas, we understand God has become many. Many... In many ways we are also part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. There are two kinds of manys. One many is called svāṁśa. Svamsa means personal expansions. And another expansion is differential expansion. The differential expansion are we, the liv

Effects of Tolerance

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

When people trouble/irritate us, give us pain, speak with us angrily, our normal natural tendency is to retaliate. The golden words, "No counteraction is the best counteraction", gets evaporated from our hearts and all we want to do is to take the judgement rod in our hands and punish the people who offend us. But if we introspect ourselves, how many times were we peaceful after such retaliation? Did it do any good to

Prabhupada arrival in USA

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada appeared in a family of pure Gaudiya Vaisnavas in 1896 in Calcutta. From early childhood he showed signs of pure devotion to Lord Sri Krishna. At the tender age of five, he single-handedly organized a neighborhood Ratha-yatra festival to glorify Lord Jagannatha. He authentically decorated a small cart to resemble the Lord's colossal chariot in Puri. Besides leading the kirtana party, he organized cooking and prasadam distribution. With his ent

In honor of the Sixth Anniverary of Vrinda Kunda Temple Opening, we have planned out and ecstatic program of parikramas and festivals from Feb. 10th to 22nd. This is one of the best times of the year as the weather is very pleasant and it is not so hot like after Mayapur Festival. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur said that in Krsna consciousness, one must be prepared to change his life and not just a little, not just partial but rather that this Krsna consciousness is a total revolution. So, it means that we have to be prepared to change completely and there is nothing in us that cannot be changed. We cannot say, “This is the way I am.” No, that argument doesn't stand because this is simply the way that we are now conditioned. Because we don’t know the way we are as
