Go home! by Bhaktimarga Swami

31209131065?profile=RESIZE_400xA group of us were walking along a canal extended from the Bow River by a road crossing when a motorist shouted out a redneck remark, “Go home!”

My companions are of Indian origin, except for my first student (disciple) from Italy. And I am in orange cloth with beige skin. The remark was hate-based and it is not surprising these days when biased comments and thoughts are on the rise, however, we laughed it off, though we were the targets.

The reasoning behind our ability to brush it off (wh

For Gopala Bhatta Gosvami’s disappearance day, I thought to read one verse and purport about him from Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila, Chapter Ten, “The Branches of the Caitanya Tree”:

TEXT 105

sri gopala bhatta eka sakha sarvottama
rupa-sanatana-sange yanra prema-alapana

TRANSLATION

Sri Gopala Bhatta Gosvami, the forty-seventh branch, was one of the great and exalted branches of the tree. He always engaged in discourses about love of Godhead in the company of Rupa Gosvami and Sanatana Gosvam

The temperature dropped to a blessing level of 10 degrees and as I stepped out the door for a breath of fresh air, I took in an injection of gratitude. Thank you, Krishna, for this life and this activity of bhakti, which for now took the form of a walk around the block.

31205213869?profile=RESIZE_584xBy His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness
Lecture given in New York City on Nov. 26, 1966

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu categorized all the teachings of the Vedic literature into three progressive stages.

veda-shastra-kahe – ‘sambandha’, ‘abhidheya’, ‘prayojana’
‘krishna’ – prapya sambandha, ‘bhakti’ – praptyera sadhana

“The Vedic literatures give information about the living entity-s eternal relationship with

Since George was a follower of Krishna consciousness, the Vancouver devotees were eager to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books and magazines to local fans attending his concert. George was expected to play a number of hits from his latest record (“Living in the Material World”), which contained many songs of devotion to the Lord:

31205210691?profile=RESIZE_584xIf we don’t want to be cheated, we must accept one undeniable law of spiritual life.

One Saturday afternoon at the Krishna-Balarama Mandir in Queens, NY, toward the end of conducting a workshop in chanting (japa-yoga), I felt thankful as indeed I had on similar occasions to be able to present the participants with the kind and reassuring statement that Krishna Himself offered His Devotee Uddhava in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. And my auditors, whose sincerity and seriousness had become evident to me.

Drivers like Krishnapriya are real heroes that take up such challenging tasks.

Meanwhile I'm having some of the best sleep in my life. I attribute this to the constant vibration of the bus's movement, the humming sound and the feeling of safety from the competent drivers.

Today is Guru-purnima. Srila Prabhupada has explained that the system of honoring the spiritual master is current in all sections of Vedic followers. In the Mayavadi (impersonalist) sects, the disciples offer respect to the spiritual master every year on Guru-purnima. And in the Gaudiya Vaisnava sampradaya, the disciples offer homage annually on the appearance day of the spiritual master; this occasion is called Vyasa-puja, because the spiritual master represents Vedavyasa, the empowered incarn

Sanatana Goswami Disappearance Day

9306412468?profile=RESIZE_400x

Sri Sanatana Gosvami appeared in 1488, five years before Sri Rupa Gosvami, in a Sarasvata brahmana family in Bengal. Sanatana and his two brothers, Rupa and Anupama, were always absorbed in bhava bhakti from early childhood. Remembering Vrndavana, they named the forests in which they played after Vraja’s twelve forests (Talavana, Madhuvana, Kamyavana, Mahavana). They called their favorite bathing ponds Radha-kunda and Syama-kunda.

In his youth, Sri Sanatana dreamt that a beautiful brahmana boy

The appearance anniversary of Srila Vyasadeva, the compiler of the Vedic literature.

This event really is directed towards Srila Vyasadeva, thus in some sampradayas they refer to Guru Purnima as Vyasa Purnima. Traditionally it is the day when the guru is worshipped.

In the book Festivals, Fairs and Fasts of India (Shakti M Gupta. 1991. Clarion books. page 88-89.) It says: Guru Purnima "……is observed on the full moon day in the month of Ashadha in honour of the sage Vyasa, by keeping a fast, wor

I always visit to lead kirtan, give class, associate and take darshan of the deities. The atmosphere is peaceful and conducive for Krsna Consciousness. There are many ashrama and guest rooms where devotees live and come for a visit.

31204715077?profile=RESIZE_400xIt was "brush and flush" time, a common expression on the bus. Close to midnight, enroute to Thunder Bay, we were on the longest route in the remote north. Though we drove on the "main drag" of Canada, the Trans Canada Highway, road travel is almost nil.

There was, however, one busy open at this hour for the brush and flush routine, at Circle K, a convenience store. With one washroom it was an impossible task to be quick. The brushing of all the bus youth took place while waiting for the door
