Radhe Dasi, Communications Director for ISKCON South Africa, as chairperson. The appointment places the International Society for Krishna Consciousness at the head of a national advisory body for the first time since the movement’s founding in South Africa in 1975.

Ten Seats at the Table

The CRL Rights Commission is a Chapter Nine constitutional body tasked with protecting cultural, religious, and linguistic rights. CRL Chairperson Thoko Xaluva Mkhwanazi presided over the launch alongside Commissioner Dr. Rajendran Govender, who will oversee the committee’s operations.

Pavan Maharaj of the Chinmaya Mission of South Africa was elected deputy chairperson. Eight further members represent the Arya Samaj, the Hindu Unity Forum of South Africa, the Natal Tamil Vedic Society, the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha, the Devasthanum Foundation, the Sri Satya Sai Organization, the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, and the Kharwastan Temple, following a nomination process opened after a March 2026 consultative meeting in Chatsworth, where the Section 22 Committee process was overwhelmingly endorsed.
