Devotees- The Best Psychiatrist

BEST PSYCHIATRIST
[October, 1972, Los Angeles]

One day in Srila Prabhupada's room in Los Angeles, a psychiatrist criticized the devotees because he felt they forced the public to accept their services.

Srila Prabhupada quickly pointed out that this made the devotees better than him (Psychiatrist). Srila Prabhupada said that thedevotees give their services to all for free by going to them, but the psychiatrist makes the people come to him and then charges them. The psychiatrist fell silent.

HE CALLED ME BACK

By Amogha Das (ACBSP)
Melbourne, Australia

It was about 1979 when I lived in Melbourne, Australia, that I decided my fallen self was a burden to ISKCON. I felt that ISKCON would be purer without me in it. I decided to leave the temple and association of devotees.

I went to the temple alone when no one else was there. There is a big brass bell at the entrance we would ring upon entering the temple. There are three arched doorways of Deity room, and three separate altars. I had come to said "Good bye" to the Deities.

I offered obeisances to Srila Prabhupada at his Vyasasana at the rear of the temple. I offered prayers explaining why I was leaving, and obeisances before Sri Sri Gaura Nitai on the left, Sri Sri Radha Vallabha in the center, and finally Lord Jagannath at the right altar closest to the door.

Having said my good byes, I walked to the big bell and door to leave when I heard a deep baritone voice call out, "Amogha! Don't go!"

Startled, I looked up at Lord Jagannath's altar. It was so loud and clear, and from His direction. I didn't hear it through my external ears, but I heard it so clearly and loudly within. Lord Jagannath, or Lord Balaram, had called me back.

I cancelled my plans to leave, holding this moment dear to my heart, and confidential.

I have been hesitating to write about this as part of World Deity Pastimes on www.narasimhalila.com for nearly six months. It was a difficult decision. A purpose of the website is to reveal that Deities in this world are actually Krsna, I hope readers will benefit from hearing this.

Eat Whatever You Can Digest

UNNECESSARY FASTING- NONSENSE! YOU GOT SERVICE!
[1973, Bhaktivedanta Manor, England]

I had been a brahmacari for two and some half years and was feeling restless. Many times, Srila Prabhupada explained how one must reduce one's sleeping and eating to make spiritual advancement, so I decided to utilize the two upcoming fast days to reduce my eating.

While breaking fast at midnight on Janmastami, I ate very little. I again ate sparingly the next afternoon after Srila Prabhupada's Vyasa puja celebration as I did the following day. I didn't feel hungry, so I assumed my stomach had shrunk.

The next day Srila Prabhupada called me into his room.

"Your face is looking thin," Srila Prabhupada stated. "You are not feeling well?" "No, Srila Prabhupada, I feel fine," I explained. "I was trying to cut down on my eating."

"What is this?" Srila Prabhupada said. "You have service to perform. You should not cut down on your eating. This is nonsense. You have to give massage and do so many things. Do not cut down. You should eat whatever you can digest. That is what you should eat."

Amazingly, in our first 16 months together, this was Srila Prabhupada's second conversation with me regarding my prasadam intake. Finally, I decided not to worry about how much prasadam I ate.

His Divine Grace had keen powers of observation and was always looking out for our welfare. Sometimes, we were busy concocting our own means to spiritual advancement, but Srila Prabhupada guided us and cared for us on every level.

Jaya Srila Prabhupada!

Get a Prasadam flower for Bug

INDISCRIMINATE MERCY
[1973, New Dwarka, ISKCON Los Angeles, USA]

Srila Prabhupada was in New Dwaraka (Los Angeles) in the spring of 1973. Hearing His Divine Grace ring his bell, I immediately went to his room and offered my obeisances. Pointing to the floor near my legs, he looked at me with wide eyes and great concern.

"Do you see that bug?" he asked. Looking around for a few moments, I finally spotted a small insect. I nodded.

In a serious voice Srila Prabhupada said, "I have been watching that bug for some time now and he has not moved. I think he is hungry. Get a prasadam flower and take him outside. Put him on a plant so he can get some nourishment."

I immediately did what my most merciful Guru Maharaja asked and returned to the servant's quarters. Neither of us spoke of the bug again. It was another wonderful occasion in which he revealed the indiscriminate mercy of a pure devotee. His Divine Grace didn't feel it was a waste of time to mitigate the suffering of even the smallest of living entities. Now, just seeing a small insect, I am forced to think of my beloved Srila Prabhupada. However insignificant we may be, if we are fortunate to get the glance of the nitya-siddha, our life will beimmensely benefited.
