Hare Krishna to all the devotees

All glories to Srila Prabhupada

There is a story that Draupadi had to marry five men because she had asked Lord Shiva for a husband with those five qualities.

She asked 5 times (wanting to ask for 5 qualities in one man) but Lord Shiva gave her the boon 5 times since it is not possible to have such qualities in one man only (except Krishna).

So was the incident of chir haran also a part of karmic reactions?

  • Hare Krishna,

Well, everything happens as per Karma. We don't meet people in this world simply. Even smiling at someone or accepting food or something from someone we don't do it simply. Unless we have some past life connection with these people.

Yes, whatever you said about Draupadi asking for 5 qualities in a husband is known story.

But do you know the past life of Draupadi?

Why she even taken birth and got married to 5 people?

Let us see her past life-

In past life of Draupadi  - she has been a rishi's patni

her name was then Nalayani and her husband's name was Rishi Mudgalya. ( I wont mention her story here) you can study it on wikipedia or any other place. ( as the katha is not mentioned in SP ji books).

One time Drupadi was with her sakhi's went to take bath in a river.  She was a sage who was inside water and his loin cloth slipped off from his body and floated away in the water and so he was not able to come out of water. So, the sakhi's were giggling noticing it but Drupadi took her saree and made it into two half and shared one half of her saree to the sage to cover his body and come out of the cold water. This act of charity and donating clothes made the sage her boon that she will have surplus clothing forever.

Secondly, one time Lord Sri Krishna had some injury when he was trying to get control on his Sudarshan chakra. Lord Sri Krishna's hand was cut and was bleeding.

Then, drupadi tore a peice of her saree to use it as a bandage to stop the bleeding.

This is how compassionate she was for other's suffering and pain. This all good karma she had in her store was repayed well back by Lord Sri Krishna.

    Hare Krishna
