Even a moment's association with a pure devotee cannot be compared to being transferred to heavenly planets or even merging into the Brahmaneffulgence in complete liberation. For living entities who are destined to give up the body and die, association with pure devotees is the highest benediction. (S.B.4:30:34).

Those who are engaged in auspicious activities in devotional service certainly understand that the ultimate enjoyer or beneficiary of all activities is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Thus when one acts, he offers the results to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and passes life always engaged in the topics of the Lord. Even though such a person may be participating in family life, he is not affected by the results of his actions.

    The function of the tongue
is to taste and to vibrate.
    Therefore, by systematic regulation,
    the tongue should be engaged
in tasting the remnants of foodstuffs
    offered to Kṛṣṇa
    and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa.
As far as the eyes are concerned,
    they should not be allowed
    to see anything but the
    beautiful form of Kṛṣṇa.
    That will control the eyes.
    Similarly, the ears should be
    engaged in hearing about Kṛṣṇa
    and the nose in smelling
    the flowers offered to Kṛṣṇa.

One must know the necessities of the body
and also the necessities of the soul.
The real necessity in life is to supply the
    comforts of the soul,
and the soul cannot be comforted
    by material adjustments.
Because the soul is a different identity,
the soul must be given spiritual food,
and that spiritual food is Krsna consciousness.
    When one is diseased,
one must be given the proper diet
    and the proper medicine.
    Both are required.
If one is simply given medicine
    but not a proper diet,
the treatment will not be very successful.
The diet is Krsna-prasada food that
has first been offered to Krsna
and the medicine is the Hare Krsna mantra.
