The Good and Bad Effects of TV on Your Kid

It is hard to avoid television if you are a kid.  People in the house are usually tuned in to TV - siblings as well as parents.  In some homes, the television is perpetually "on" even without anyone watching.  It is common for parents and caregivers to use TV as a substitute babysitter.   Also, many parents buy videos that they think can make their kids smart.  But how does watching TV really affect children?

The bad news is, the majority of experts think that a TV/video-driven culture has bad e

Distress in mothers womb

In the Srimad-Bhagavatam the world of the unborn, the child's stay in the womb of the mother, its suffering, etc., are all very graphically described. It should be thoroughly understood that birth is distressful.Because we forget how much distress we have suffered within the womb of the mother, we do not make any solution to the repetition of birth and death. Similarly at the time of death there are all kinds of sufferings, and they are also mentioned in the authoritative scriptures. See the Lord in Everyone

In Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 1, Chapter 11, verse 7 the residents of Dvaraka glorify the Lord in a wonderful manner when the Lord returns to Dvaraka from Hastinapura. The residents of Dvaraka are immensely separated from Krishna and they run towards Him as soon as Krishna enters Dvaraka blowing the fat-boweled conchshell, the sound of which removes the fear of all living entities.

Seek and you shall find

Finding faults with the devotees

Seek and you shall find. If you are looking for faults, you will find faults in everyone and anywhere, if you are looking for the good, you will find the good everywhere and anywhere. It is a question of what you want. Krishna will reveal Himself according to how you approach Him. Shishupal only saw faults in Krishna, whereas Arjuna, Yudhishtar, they only saw the glory of Krishna. According to how they approached Krishna they were saved. Krishna is in the heart

Who Created Krishna?

Question: Who Created Krishna?

Dear Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances,
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am Dipesh, 10 years old. I wake up every day at 4am and chant the mahamantra mantra 16 rounds before going to school at 7am. I read the Bhagavad-gita. I go to the ISKCON temple every Sunday. I take prasadam and follow the rules ISKCON for making spiritual advancement.

I heard that Krishna is the creator of the creator. For example, if someone creates something, then Krishna is the one

Initiation ceremony

Next, Prabhupada called Simon to the dais, and gave him the name Syamananda dasa. "So, Syamananda. Syama means Krsna. Syamasundaram. So one who takes pleasure in serving Krsna, his name is Syamananda. Ananda means pleasure. We take pleasure in serving so many nonsense things. Sometimes we take pleasure in serving a dog, but the same service attitude, when transferred to Krsna, makes our life successful. Everyone is giving service: Somebody is giving service to a country, to hi

Thought Of The Day

The spiritual master should not be expected to just say what the disciple wants to hear. The spiritual master is not like a professional politician who will only
come and tell the disciple what the disciple wants to hear. A spiritual
master’s instruction may be very shocking, but the disciple should accept the
instruction with faith.

Question: How to Get the Normal People to Chant?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

How can we get the normal people to chant Hare Krishna?

L.I.

Answer: They Already Are

The normal people are already chanting Hare Krishna.  It's the abnormal  people who somehow or other need to be induced to chant Hare Krishna. If you become completely pure in your chanting, you will able to convince the entire world to chant Hare Krishna.

Courtesy Is Kindness in Action!

Somebody once remarked, "Kindness and courtesy can make an average person
superior. Indifference and lack of concern can make a superior person
average."

As a society, we have become almost obsessed with asserting our rights – to
think, say, and do what we want. We have a right to be unkind, thoughtless,
and disrespectful but, it is NOT Right! And, that's not surprising, given
the ever-increasing population of this country and the need to fight even
for the basic needs.

The other day, one of our colleag

The people we remember to thank, in person, with a thoughtful note or gesture, or a phone call, are infinitely more likely to help us again than those we take for granted or neglect to thank. It’s so obvious, yet so few people really understand how this works.

People love to be acknowledged, admired, and thanked. People love to be thanked, not out of any selfish need but simply because it feels good to be acknowledged. And when we are sincerely acknowledged, the acknowledgment acts as reinforceme
