The Spiritual Journey

The real loving nature of God is that He gives us all an opportunity to understand Him and return to Him. Furthermore, God, as He has given numerous instructions in His Supreme form as Lord Krishna, has deliberately shown that there are so many ways by which we can develop our attraction and devotion to Him. Naturally, we all have individual characteristics and temperaments, as well as different inclinations and abilities. So, why would an all-loving God not provide the facility for each one of

LEGENDS

One of the most renowned and oldest temples in Kerala, the Sree Krishna Temple has an interesting legend behind its origin.

According to legends Lord Vishnu himself had worshipped the idol that we see now at Guruvayur, before donating it to Brahma. Prajapati Sutapa and his wife Prsni prayed to Brahma, and pleased at their devotion Brahma gave them this idol. Sutapa and his wife Prsni worshipped the idol with such devotion that Mahavishnu Himself appeared before them for granting a boon

Outside of Varnashram Dharma

Outside of Varnashram Dharma

From Srila Thakur Bhaktivinode's Jaiva Dharma chapter 7

Yadava Das: O saintly bābājī, householder devotees live under the shelter of thevarṇāśrama system. May a householder devotee leave the varṇāśrama system?

Ananta Das: Ah! The vaiṣṇava religion is very broad and generous. Another name for thevaiṣṇava religion is ‘jaiva-dharma’, the religion for all human beings. This means that every human being is qualified to join the vaiṣṇava religion. Even outcastes may emb

Brahmananda Prabhu “The Mountain of our mission”

Srila Prabhupada confering with Brahmananda

“Srila Prabhupad once called Brahmananda Prabhu ‘The Mountain of our mission.’” Acyutananda Prabhu

Though I was not in constant contact with Brahmananda Prabhu I always had great affection for him and Gargamuni Prabhu, the “love brothers” because of their unflinching faith in and pure unalloyed love for Srila Prabhupada. Brahmananda Prabhu was archetypal of what it meant to be a “Prabhupada man.” He would take a bullet for Srila Prabhupada and be

Homage to Kurma Rupa Prabhu

Homage to Kurma Rupa Prabhu

By Jasomatinandan das

I knew Kurma Rupa Prabhu since 30 plus years. First as a Gurukula teacher of my children then as a protector of sick and old and rejected cows. The most important quality I found in him was freedom from envy. Like the six Goswamis he loved all without malice. He was simple, straightforward and honest to the core. He not only treated sick cows but he treated sick and old rejects men like me. After Srila Prabhupada’s departure, he was one of the f

“As It Is”

By Kesava Krsna Dasa

We might take the “As It Is” in our Bhagavad-gita title for granted. All authors want to be different and original. With many versions of Bhagavad-gita already available, Srila Prabhupada’s “As It Is” addition was a very bold and provocative one. He is saying, “this is it, how it should be, the definitive and genuine Bhagavad-gita”. Who else can claim this with confidence?

Considering that there are many ways of looking at Krishna’s song of wisdom, and studying it from diff

Bali Maharaj, Vamana Deva

Some days back, after a class describing Krishna’s appearance as Vamana Deva, I had an interesting discussion with Shyamsundar Prabhuji on how Lord was more favourable to Bali maharaj than Indra, for whose apparent and immediate help Lord came as Vamana Deva. In the past I also had questions like what prompted Lord to go with Bali maharaj  as his ‘gatekeeper’ after this particular pastime, why does Krishna protects Indra even after so many offenses, what happ
