ISKCON Myanmar National Council expresses deep concern over the continuous seismic activity affecting Mandalay and nearby regions. The series of small earthquakes, though mild on the Richter scale, has caused significant structural damage to ISKCON temples and properties. The tremors continue to pose a serious threat, with reports indicating a high risk of further deterioration or even collapse if the situation persists.
According to reports from our temple leadership and ground teams, these repeated tremors have significantly weakened the structural integrity of our temples. The risk of collapse is now alarmingly high, especially if seismic activity continues. The Mandalay Gaushala temple premises have sustained considerable damage, and Temple deities are currently being placed under temporary shelter as a precautionary measure. Some grihastha devotees and their families have also been affected, but the full extent of the damage remains uncertain due to difficulties in gathering precise data amid the ongoing crisis.
Recognizing the urgency, the ISKCON Myanmar National Council convened an emergency meeting on 2nd April 2025 to assess the situation and plan necessary actions.
