The Hare Krishna Study Centre (ISKCON Guyana) hosted the Hare Krishna Legacy Festival in Georgetown, Guyana, from July 8–12, 2026, bringing together more than 60 visiting devotees from at least ten countries. The five-day celebration commemorated the 60th anniversary of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), 50 years of ISKCON in Guyana, the 10th anniversary of the Hare Krishna Study Centre, and the 20th annual Jagannatha Ratha-yatra in Guyana. The event also marked a regional milestone as Guyana became the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to host an ISKCON Leadership Sanga (ILS), welcoming temple leaders for three days of discussion, collaboration, and strategic planning.
Devotees from India, the United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Venezuela, Brazil, Panama, Argentina, El Salvador, and Hungary joined local congregations and guests from across Guyana. Throughout the festival, participants took part in congregational chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita discourses, deity worship, devotional music, cultural presentations, seminars, youth performances, drama, and the honoring of Krishna prasadam.
A defining feature of this year’s festival was the three-day ISKCON Leadership Sanga, which brought together temple presidents, regional secretaries, and senior devotees from Latin America, the Caribbean, India, and North America. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation among temples, developing future leaders, sharing successful preaching initiatives, and identifying opportunities for expanding Krishna consciousness throughout the region. Hosting the gathering in Guyana reflected ISKCON’s continued growth in Latin America and the Caribbean and strengthened relationships among participating communities.
The festival was enriched by the participation of senior ISKCON leaders, preachers, and internationally respected kirtaniyas. Among those in attendance were Bhakti Vasudeva Swami, Bhakti Sundar Swami, Gaura Mani Dasi and family, Giri Govardhan Das, the Spiritual Warriors, Ajamil Das, and many other devotees serving throughout India, North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Through lectures, kirtana, and personal association, they encouraged devotees and guests to deepen their devotional service while emphasizing cooperation in fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s mission.
One of the festival’s public highlights was the 20th annual Jagannatha Ratha-yatra. Lord Jagannatha, Lord Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi were taken in procession through the streets accompanied by vibrant sankirtana, devotional dancing, and the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. Hundreds of devotees and well-wishers, along with members of the public, gathered along the route to witness the annual celebration.
