Four ISKCON communities across Gautengi Province, South Africa, brought their Srila Prabhupada murtis together at The Glen Primary School in Menlyn on September 5 for a joint observance of Srila Prabhupada’s 130th Vyasa Puja and ISKCON’s 60th anniversary year. The in-person gathering, attended by an estimated 300 to 400 devotees, represented a critical stride forward in regional cooperation built around what organizers described as “unity, but not uniformity.”
For Chaitanya Das, ISKCON South Africa’s Gauteng regional lead, the gathering represented an effort to strengthen relationships among temples and communities that have developed distinct identities, leadership structures and areas of service.
“We reached a particular point in the journey of ISKCON Gauteng where we
felt inspired to strengthen cooperation and relationships among all our temples and communities,” Chaitanya said. He added that while communities continue to attract new participants, leaders also need to consider how well devotees are supported and cared for in their spiritual journey.
