tam asmin pratyag-ātmānaḿ

dhiyā yoga-pravṛttayā

bhaktyā viraktyā jñānena

vivicyātmani cintayet

SYNONYMS

After breakfast Prabhupada called for Yasodanandana and Mahamsa Maharajas who are both growing their hair and beards on the plea of observing caturmasya. Srila Prabhupada told them it was inappropriate that they look dirty and unclean on such an important occasion. His criticism had the desired effect for they both left and immediately shaved their heads and faces.

Brahmacarya, or celibate student life, is the first spiritual stage (asrama) in the varnasrama system. It lasts from 5th to 25th year of of one's life and during this time the brahmacari lives with his spiritual master and learns the theory and practice of the Vedic life recorded in the revealed scriptures.

The devotees, the jnanis, who are known as moksa-kama, and the karmis, who are known as sarva-kama, are all aspiring to worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu. Even when one performs yajnas, as stated here (kriya-kalapaih), he should always remember that the demigods are but agents of the Supreme Lord. Actually the worshipful Lord is Visnu, Yajnesvara.
