Gopalji Deity

Gopala Krsna explained that a new ordinance introduced under the auspices of Indira Gandhi now limits the height of any building in Bombay to only five floors. In order to complete the sixth floor on the towers, they had to work at night.

As he walked Gopala Krsna told Prabhupada that Sri Laksna Pandit, the sister-in-law of one of our western devotees and a famous actress and singer, was scheduled to sing bhajanas at our pandala tomorrow. He wondered if that was all right.

"Yes," Prab

Who is God?

Who is God?

Question: Different religions claim their God to be the real God. Sometimes, certain people claim to be incarnations of God. Some consider God personal, others, impersonal. Who actually is God?

Answer: God has nowadays largely become an object of naļve sentiment and blind faith. However, knowledge of God is a precise and profound science. Based on that divine science, let’s address these questions one by one:

As science begins with definition of the object under study, let’s

The Hare Kṛṣṇa Mantra

The Hare Kṛṣṇa Mantra

The transcendental vibration established by the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare, is the sublime method for reviving our transcendental consciousness As living spiritual souls, we are all originally Kṛṣṇa conscious entities, but due to our association with matter from time immemorial, our consciousness is now adulterated by the material atmosphere. The material atmosphere, in which we are now living, is ca

A common controversy

A common controversy.

Bhagavad-gita 7.7

TRANSLATION

O conquerer of wealth [Arjuna], there is no Truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread.

PURPORT

There is a common controversy over whether the Supreme Absolute Truth is personal or impersonal. As far as Bhagavad-gītā is concerned, the Absolute Truth is the Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and this is confirmed in every step. In this verse, in particular, it is stressed that the Absolute Truth is a person. That

Beg Krishna for Pure Bhakti

Religion nowadays is accepted as a system of taking God as one's order-supplier, that I approach God to fulfill my material desires. Of course, it is God undoubtedly who is supplying us all of our material necessities. But this does not mean that we have to petition Him for this purpose. Does a child have to beg his parents every day to feed him? No, of course not. Because the parents love the child they will naturally feed him. No begging is required. What will satisfy the parents greatly is if

Unless you inquire submissively and hear attentively, you cannot preach the message of Godhead. Actually no one is guru except Krishna, everyone is disciple, everyone is servant and it is our service being disciple to teach others and take position of guru. So here we find, Lord Brahma humbling himself before Vishnu, “I do not know please philosophically explain, who I am, who are You? What is this material world? And what is happiness? Arjuna asked Krishna the same question, Sanatana Goswami as

Can Science answer everything?

SCIENCE – "TWO" SHORT TO ROPE THE UNIVERSE
-Damodara lila special

One of the important legends associated with Diwali is Damodara lila, a pastime in which mother Yashoda tried to tie Krishna with a rope. The rope turned out to be two fingers short. So she tied more rope, but, no matter how many ropes she tied together, the combined rope remained two fingers short.
This pastime signifies that no matter how much we try, we will always fall short in our attempts to understand God with our intelligence

Absolute independence - Back to Godhead

We are not independent. Just like in the state, in your country, although you have observed the independence ceremony, but you are not independent. If you go... "Keep to the right," you go to the left, immediately your independence finished. You'll be punished. So this so-called independence is conditional. It is not absolute independence. If you want absolute independence then you have to go back home, back to Godhead. This is Krsna consciousness. We are hankering after independence, but so lon

Subordinate independence

Freedom means you must have independence. But because you are not absolutely independent, so you suffer. The Absolute Independent is God, Krsna. Just like government. The government orders: let this crowd be shot. Let there be bullet shot. Hundreds of men die. But government is not responsible for such death. But if you kill one man, you'll be responsible. So your independence is subordinate independence. Similarly, all living entities, they have been given independence by God, but his independe

Srila Prabhupada's tooth

August 15th, 1976

Srila Prabhupada rang his buzzer early this morning. I entered his room, offered my obeisances, looked up -- and got a shock. Srila Prabhupada was smiling -- revealing a gap where his tooth should have been.

With mixed dismay and surprise I asked, "Srila Prabhupada, what happened to your tooth?"

Without saying anything, Srila Prabhupada reached down and pulled open the drawer of his desk. The tooth was lying inside. During the night it had either fallen out

We were about to drive from Townsville, in North Queensland, to Brisbane, a distance of about 400 km. There is a big market in Townsville that I thought would be great for harinam and book distribution. But my wife felt a bit sick and wanted to leave right away so that we wouldn't get to our destination too late in the evening. I agreed with her proposal. So we set off with no plans to do books -- but Krsna had other plans.

I stopped in a side street to wash some fruit to eat on the way. There

Oh, My Master’s Lotus Feet Are Bittersweet

By Tamal Krishna Goswami

God’s greatest gift, service to my master,
Exorcist of the ghost of past desire,
Sweet purgative, bittersweet oil of castor.

I’ve found my master’s service does inspire
Desirelessness of all but pleasing him;
Without remorse, I watch life’s joys expire.

Let lust retire, that most acidic sin,
By guru’s grace, its misery alkalize
My soured life, rescued by his discipline.

I hide my sin in shame lest he recognize
My faults and condemn what I e
