This is the list of 108 of the most important slokas from the Bhagavad-gita As It Is (1972 Macmillan Edition) by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The index to these verses was taken from the Bhakti-sastri Study Guide compiled by Atmatattva dasa as used by the Bhaktivedanta Academy in Mayapur. [*Note for this collection of slokas, we are using the Original Translations rather than the later re-vised Translations. These were the Translations that Srila Prabhupada approved and

Siddhanta's Story

Siddhanta dasaMy first contact with the Hare Krishna movement came in the summer of 1969 when I saw its members chanting on the streets of Hollywood. My initial reaction to the shaven heads, saffron-colored robes and seemingly strange activity was one of bewilderment and, to some degree, comic relief. It was not until a year later that I was able to appreciate the sound philosophy which stems from one of the world's oldest religious traditions, as explained in their Back to Godhead magazine. I soon realized t

Srila Prabhupada–Dear to Krishna

A Response by Giriraj Swami
December 16, 2007
Chowpatty, Mumbai

After discussing a verse from the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 12, at a Sunday
program at Chowpatty, I invited questions and comments, and a senior
brahmacari preacher responded:

Gauranga dasa: Thank you for a wonderful class. In this same Bhagavad-gita
chapter, entitled “Devotional Service,” in the thirteenth verse, Krsna
speaks about the qualities of pure devotees, thus establishing how pure
devotional service is the highest. Could you pl

Service in the right mood

Hare Krishna.

20th March, 2014, Gurgaon.

I had a needless argument with HG Shyam Sundar Prabhuji the other day on some particular service which I wanted to undertake. The result of this silly argument (all from my side), however, was a beautiful mail which I received from Prabhuji. I am posting that mail 'as it is' for the benefit of all readers

Hare Krishna Prabhuji,

Dandavat Pranam...PAMHO.

We all know that the most important part of  being Krishna Consciousness is to comprehend and accept that we

H.H Radha Govind Maharaj mentions this incident on his flight from kenya to India...his flight had a transit via kuwait. due to some delay he had to wait for 4-5 hrs at Kuwait.

While chanting Hare Krishna in the airport lounge, 1 airport official watching the indian swami became intrigued and called him over to speak.

At first Maharaj was feeling somewhat reluctant to go ...as he was in a country which may not appreciate his path.

Gathering courage with faith in his Lord, Maharaj went to me

Realisation of a Devotee

In the San Diego ISKCON temple in USA, there was a gentleman called *Mr. Prakash*. He was a reserved type of person who would come regularly to the temple feasts but never really showed a lot of enthusiasm.

One day he had a severe heart attack and was rushed to hospital. During the surgery he almost passed away on four occasions. It was touch and go and he slipped into a coma. He remained that way for several weeks after.

Jananivas Prabhu’s service was to bring frankincense to Srila Prabhupada’s room in the evening. He mentioned that usually after you fill a room with frankincense, you open the doors and windows so that the mosquitos go out with the smoke. Srila Prabhupada however liked to keep the smoke within the room and stopped Jananivas Prabhu from opening the doors and windows. Since it was Srila Prabhupada’s darshan time, there would usually be many western devotees in the room and these western devotees

About Ugadi

The New year festival or Ugadi comes close on the heels of Holi. While the strong colors of Holi start fading away, the freshness of spring lingers on with sprightliness all around. The flame of the forest (trees with bright red flowers that blossom during holi) are in full bloom signifying an affluent season. It is believed that the creator of the Hindu pantheon Lord Brahma started creation on this day - Chaitra suddha padhyami or the Ugadi day. Also the great Indian Mathematician Bhaskarachar

Thought Of The Day

Prabhupada: That is another thing. But first of all, the basic principle is we have to understand that our senses are imperfect, and whatever knowledge we gather by these imperfect senses, they are imperfect. So if we want perfect knowledge, then we have to approach somebody whose senses are perfect, whose knowledge is perfect. That is the principle. That is the Vedic principle. Therefore the Vedic principle says, tad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigacchet [MU 1.2.12]. You know Sanskrit, yes. "In o
